Really? I didn't count when I arrived @ 10am. But full in the lots, full row in front of the metal sheet wall (1st row?) and full row behind that (2nd?). I had to park next to the "NO PARKING" sign (3rd?).

To whom it may concern:

Hi. I would like to ask a few things and suggest a few points that the school may look into consideration. Firstly, my bike was clamp today for not parking in the student bike park. I would like to post this question to you. If, my bike is being 'tampered' with in the student bike park, who should I look for for an answer? Because, seriously I have first hand experience and have LOTS of people saying about it.

Secondly, the ratio of students riding to school is far larger then the number of students that drove to school. So why can't the school convert some of the car lots into bike lots? Each car lot that you have can actually be transform into 4 bike lots. Which is of better space management.

And with the crime rates of missing bike raising and bikes being vandalize. I find no sense of security as the school student bike lots are of little or minimum security. Any stranger can just go into the parking area without being detect. While parking inside the school offered more sense of security for us bike owners or even care owners. Some bikes may be as expensive as a car that drive into the school and park in the school. If the school wanted to isolate student parking and lecturers/staff parking. Why not the school also build a student car park outside the school for those that drive? Seriously it would serve no purpose as students will still park inside a place where they feel more secure and safe for their vehicle(Property) while they are studying and not worrying will their bike/car still be there or have 'extra' things on them or worst still less things on/in them.

I seriously hope some things can be work out between students of the school and management of the school. You may reply me thur this email address.

as usual, users of the carparks must be aware that the management will not be liable for any damages or losses, etc etc. - the infamous disclaimer.

maybe they'll even say if ya worriy bout yur vehicle, plz take the public transport..hee.

when i was studying in NYP, sometimes in the morning, there are security guards at the carpark watching..and when they see cars or bikes park at such slots, they would approach the vehicle owners and ask them to park elsewhere if they are students. I always tell them I'm a vistior, finding my friend.. so no problems b4. just insist u aint a student over here, appear annoyned and give a stuck-up attitude and they will back off.

Confession of a TEP student in School of Business Management...

Are there flaws in TEP or is it just me?

After 4 weeks in CRMCC 2, I have gathered enough thoughts and opinions about TEP that’s worth a read. Take it or leave it. For takers, read it with an OPEN MIND. First things first, what have I learnt? More or less NOTHING! I come to school for the sole purpose of learning something beneficial. Sad to say, I am being compelled to do some deplorable and woeful projects just to ensure a pass grade. Do you teachers actually derive pleasure from making us do worthless projects, or is it because you all need to come up with some rubbish projects in a futile attempt to keep your rice bowl? Stop telling me that the projects are good and useful when I go out to work next time. I acknowledge that some are useful but not ALL. I am being manipulated and made to believe that all projects are beneficial to my future working life. That’s just so self-degrading for me.

Firstly, in this TEP module, we are required to do some personal selling. If I am not wrong it constitutes 10% of our grade. Whose idea was it to come up with personal selling? Why are we being obligated to sell printers and scanners for Canon just to improve our grade? Furthermore, we are not given any commission. Those who are rich can easily afford to buy some printers or scanners for themselves. It’s unfair to people who are poor. If we can’t afford to buy the printers and scanners, does it mean we will get 0/10 for personal selling? I myself have Starhub TV and internet in my home. Those people who do not have it in the first place can conveniently subscribe to Starhub. It’s like killing 2 birds with one stone, improving your grade and enjoying Starhub TV and internet. Whose being exploited, the school or the students? There’s a high probability that it’s the students. Let me just illustrate a likely scenario. Starhub is paying the school to get the students to market their products. This is commendable if students do not buy the product themselves but really promote it to their relatives or friends. On the other hand, who can ensure that students do not buy the products for themselves? It doesn’t truly reflect the 10% in personal selling.

Secondly, is it really necessary that we spend 9 hrs from 8.30-5.30 in school everyday? In addition to 2 hours of traveling time, it’s 11 hours. Now you may say that it’s to train students to adapt to working hours outside. It’s fair enough if we are at least paid a few dollars but what do we get? What’s the use of working when you don’t get any incentives? Most of the time, after doing our respective chores for the projects, we are left with a plethora of free time where either we surf websites or walk around school. Apparently we aren’t allowed to do so but who cares? Who would spend a few hours stoning in perpetual misery while they wait for time to past slowly? Not to mention though, our Saturdays aren’t spared as well. Everyone has practically nothing to do on Saturdays in class. They just come to school to surf the net and listen to music. I am sure you and I wouldn’t want to be deprived of our precious sleep. If I am deprived of my sleep to do something important, I wouldn’t mind. But well, generally we finish most of our projects way before hand. Time even permits me to compile a report like this in class.

Thirdly, the projects we do are simulated. During the 1st week, my team came up with a fictitious car rental company after much contemplation. We were then made to come up with a website and put some of our stupid thoughts on paper. It was utter bullshit. If you teachers can get everyone to be frank, they will say most of the things we learn are redundant.

On the 2nd week, we were working on out going calls to our colleagues. Some of our colleagues aren’t even serious about giving us a realistic role play. Either they didn’t know our products well enough or they were too lazy or tired to give us a proper role play attributed by the fact that most of them probably think that a role play is kind of insignificant. It doesn’t portray the real world. The statistic that we received isn’t realistic at all. We called 68 people and only 1 rejected us. This can be accounted for, by the event in which a party may be afraid of themselves given a taste of their own medicine for posing difficult questions to our fictitious company.

To add to our demise, we were given an assignment to conjure a data base consisting of 200 fictitious names. In what way will we benefit from coming up with 200 fictitious names, address, credit card number, etc? Why not we just do 50? After all we aren’t working on real customers. So what’s the use of a data base consisting of 200 fake names? Just for show? Please enlighten me.

On the 3rd week, we were doing inbound calls and more data base crap. I admit that inbound calls play an essential role in telemarketing. Thus we must always give our full attention to it and strive to make it as realistic as possible. Try as I might to adhere to my diplomatic relations, it’s very difficult in a situation whereby 1 week after outgoing calls, we were working on inbound calls which are of minimal difference. With due respect to inbound calls, I am just trying to make my point here accompanied by some recommendations.

Negative feed back in the form of complains are common in everyday lives in companies. However, in a simulated environment in CRMCC, it’s almost impossible for our colleagues to complain. Why? No matter how much they complain, we’ll always smoke our way out by lying through our teeth. No one will find out right? It’s a fictitious company and people don’t exactly get the car they rent. Obviously no one will find out that we were fabricating our way out of arguments or complain. I would recommend that our colleagues be given a pep talk so that there will be a slight chance that they would take our complains seriously. On the other hand, it’s very difficult as in the first place, it’s a role play after all; no one would be triggered to take it seriously.

Secondly, positive feed back in the form of compliments are less common. When a customer compliment about your company, we should listen attentively and just agree with what he or she has to say. Try to take the initiative to close another deal with the customers. However some customers would take the initiative themselves. A complimentary feed back always works in our favour. Sparing any sarcasm, any person with a double digit IQ here would know how to handle complimentary situations.

Lastly, enquiries and bookings from our colleagues are realistic and unrealistic at the same time. Most of the time, our colleagues do not pose much of a problem to us when it comes to asking questions. At times they make it too easy for us. In real life there are such easy customers but maybe they should give us more of a challenge. Anyone with a good IQ or common sense can easily clinch deals. In this case, a car rental company would not have to do much with people who needs to rent car. Usually the people would just call to rent a car without asking much. Now you may be thinking I’m writing a recommendation that’s totally irrelevant. Nevertheless, I would beg to differ though, I’m not trying to attribute all the unrealism to the fact that our colleagues aren’t good at giving constructive scenario. Just that they are inexperience and we all need some real life customers to market our product to. Teachers can also pose more thinking questions to us. But sadly we can still fabricate.

Come 4th week, abhorrence for CRMCC 2 descended strongly on me like never before. As if there weren’t enough dreadful projects, we were made to do some survey. I am sad to say that our surveys may not totally reflect what our company did. Many of our colleagues were just doing it for the sake of it. Most didn’t follow the proper procedure of face to face surveys. They merely handed the surveys to the party whose suppose to fill in the survey. This led to most of us deciding not to take the survey seriously anymore. It’s a vicious cycle. On the other hand, this is understandable as the survey is of no significance to most of us. It would be a blatant lie if I said it was useful.

In the first place, most people in public would reject doing a survey. Furthermore, CRMCC 2 is a simulated environment. Who would even bother to remember what they have said 1 or 2 weeks ago? Even if they remembered, some of them would just have that can’t-be-bother kind of attitude. ‘So what if I take it seriously?’ Would it be beneficial to the other companies? It’s all simulated for after all. I hope I gave whoever that’s reading this some food for thought to vindicate my claim that there’s no recommendation in resolving the problem here. If you can come up with one, I would gladly hear about it.

I reckon many of my colleagues are questioning the entire validity of CRMCC 2. Why are we spending 4 weeks of our time on a fictitious company which isn’t going to be listed? What’s the likelihood of learning something practical? What do we get? A grade just to pass into the next phase in poly life? Then again, it’s distressing to see that my colleagues and I have to conform to this draconian system. Please make clear to me the significance of CRMCC 2. I want to see the light of it. We are not robots; please don’t make school a mundane chore for us. I wouldn’t want a worthless certificate (paper) at the end of it. This is meant to be a one sided argument. Pardon me for the fallacies that I have committed. Would anyone like to tell me the other side of the story?
