Hi, people.

Feel that the old GSX-R400RR thread is getting way outa topic. Hence forth, will like to start this new topic purely on technical data and facts. As for G4 outings and roundings. Kindly restrict to "GSXR400RR riders"

I will be keeping an eye on this thread as to anyone who may need help or advice on GK76A.

For potential riders looking for 400CC sports, GSX-R 400 may fall into one of the selections other than ZX-4R and Babyblades. I try to list out a series of Pros and Cons which I have had experienced with my GSXR.

This thread is meant strictly for knowledge. I seek forumers co-operation as to practice self-reflection before posting offensive and non-contributing opinion.

GSX-R400R 1995

Bore: 56mm (2.205")

Stroke: 40.4mm (1.591")

Overall Length: 1 995 mm (78.5 in)

Overall Width: 710 mm (28.0 in)

Overall Height: 1 060 mm (41.7 in)

Wheelbase: 1 435 mm (56.5 in)

Dry Weight: 169 kg (472 lbs)

Engine type: Water-cooled 398 cc inline-4, DOHC, 16 valves. 53 hp/ 12.000 rpm,

3,8 kg-m/ 9.500 rpm.

Horsepower Issues

----------------------

GSXR400 RR (1994 - 1996) - 53 bhp

GSXR400 MSP, SPII, LSP (1990 - 1993) - 59 BHP

* However, due to old age and different engine condition, the 6 bhp can't be feel

unless put on Dyno machine

Pros

--------

* Cheap

* Excellent "Price to Performance" Ratio

(Any Standard GSXR nowadays should reach up to 200 - 210 km/hr)

* Unique engine with tremendous Top-End if properly tuned

* Corner-carvers with excellent ground clearance

* Loud exhaust tone (2nd to ZX-4R)

Cons

--------

* Old age (Reaching 2nd cycle of COE)

* Electrical wiring issues (Common fault that can be easily identified and rectified)

* Parts prone to malfunction due to old age.

(i.e rectifier, brake system, Carburettor jets, CDI, timing chain, chain

tensioner, suspenion)

* Cradle frame leaves engine exposed to impact in a "low-side".

( Engine covers will be cut through with impact and in extreme cases, internal

mechanical parts also also be damaged in a fall)

* Lack of Performance parts (Legalised Yoshi, Micron)

* Torturing riding posture ( Standard Race "Ass-up, Arms-down" posture)

I believe you are referring to the Remote Reservoir for suspenion, that is placed under the seat. That, my fren is a "Gem". Only a selected few of GSX-R400 in Singapore has them. It's main purpose is to enable full adjustment to the rear shock such as, rebound, dampening and Compression.

However, only a few units of GSX-R have them. If you looking for adjustability. U have to fork out more for Penske , Hagon or Customise Ohlin.

Some old GSX-R have their rear Susp bottoming out due to old age. It's irreversible and only way out is to start sourcing for a scrap one if that happens.

I think those GSXR are classifield as the SP model (KSP, LSP, MSP) The have different CDI compare to the normal type GSXR.

Oh the BTW they have close ratio gear box too( Damm gd to pull):cheer: :cheer:

IMO KSP rocks!!!! single seat and brace swing arm works dude!!!!!!!!!

It's main purpose is to enable full adjustment to the rear shock such as, rebound, dampening and Compression

From wat i know the remote can only control Compression setting. And the preload is adjusted by the C-spanner. As for rebound i not sure:sorry:

the SP models are running on cartridge forks which provides more options... rebound damping can be adjusted... dunno bout compression though... wheras the domestic models only have the option of preload for the front...

seriously juz my 2 cents worth...

for a clearer pic of wat's the difference between the 2 kinda forks, try this...

Lolz....sure y not?

Btw, to add onto icez's question abt clearing carbon, is there anyway to remove if not all, at least most of the carbon present inside such an old bike of ours?

U can try cutting the muffler, change the packing while you're at it, make it a

straight thru muffler as well.

Seng Kwang quoted me $260 just to do it......
