stargate bro, thanks for coming down and helping wiht air filter installation... it aint easy......quite scary to see my bike in pieces.. but i learned so much from it...

[niti] , [aikon], [newsuit] thanks for coming down to jurong west man....so long since i hanged out with you guys...and it was a nice simple trip to 2nd link...

to the rest going to 2nd link....*the rest stop* just before going bacl to sg.. wah lau... the nasi goreng and mee goreng kerang!!! damm bloody nice lah!!!!.... i have to order it next time!

got some pictures of the air filter installation.. if i got time ill doa 'step by step' guide on air filter installation..

also those who's speedo meter.. if any of the bulb is blown.. i just found out.. its very easy to replace it.... will show u guys pictures.. soon...

also.. one last thing...

the way the air filter works.. is air is sucked in via the paper filter...

meaning.. if your filter is dirty.. less air will get sucked in... but no way will dirt ever enter.... if your filter is dirty...

previously some ppl told me if air filter dirty.. dirt will get in to engine.. now that i lok at it.. thats pretty impossible... so if you got an old air filter.. no worries.. you only will suffer abit of performance loss..

also

[niti] where the heck u customize ur old air filter? what type of sponse is it.. how much u pay for them to do that for u?

Posted

Visual -->> My old filter i made it at GHC Yishun (Ah Wah, sounds familiar?) Got it for $45 and its washable. Just rinse with water and let it dry, dats what ah wah said.

The sponge is not like the ordinary sponge we used to wash our bikes. He got the sponge from Honda. He claimed that he did it on many bikes before and that by using the sponge, more air can pass through the filters and therefore, more pick up. But to me, no diff leh. Just a cheaper alternative...

Dirt_EFX>>> Price guideline?...hmmm...depends on how you look at it lah...if i am not wrong...that bike is FV plate...8k...check the mileage, check the tyres, fork, headlight, difficult to start or not...if bike is good condition with a lot of accessories...it is up to how much you have in your pocket and also your monthly installment comfortability...there are other owners who might want to sell their vara....if you want...can pm me...but asking price $7.5k...with full accessories....

does mine consider with lot of accessories??? wonder how much my vara can fetch with a faulty speedo....

Hi..all Vara bros,Peace..

... a pat on the back to all who were around helping out just now. special mention also goes to our master siifuu...stargate for not only giving guidance throughout, but also get his hands dirtied. :thumb: ... his sweat almost flooded the floor. :D

...in all,it was an excellent experience just by observing and a little hands on.good thing it was done only on two bikes...almost dark when both fully assembled.

so take note before doing installation...

1.don't do it with a full tank.

2.get ready a small container, for minor petrol spillage.

3.trash pack..dont neglect the area cleaning up part.

4.extra pair of hands would be great.

5.very important...get stargate contact first.

Visual >> mucho gracias for the air filter.

one more point (as mentioed by stargate) which i think is an excellent idea...

bring extra fuel (in a metal container)... then when tank is out, shake and drane out all petrol..as to remove all resedue in it.. (so u will also need another canl to hold the old petrol)

we sadly didint managed to do this..

For the normal bulb, u can get it at any bike shop. It's the same as Vespa. I managed to get it at 2 dollars each.

For air filter, u can check out the online manual on Visual's webpage and not necessary to change if performance is still there. If u need it urgently, u can get it at FJT. One of the cheapest in SG I think.

To blow air filter, from inside to outside. The other way round will push the dirt further in.

Air Filter

It also helps that Niti n Visual bike have the SW Motech crash bar as it makes the fairing easier to remove. As for d fabricated one (like the one on Newsuit) may need to spend a little more time as part of the crash bar is attached to the fairing

As mentioned before,(thereotically speaking), after the filter change there s a little more air going into the carb (ie a little leaner air to petrol mixture). Fine adjustment to carb wuld follow if previously u hve been fiddling with yr carb with the old filter. But then u would need a special 90 degree screw driver to make the adjustment

By the way from the pics don't I look like Richard Gere b4 he enroll for Planet Fitness ?

Aikon > Am interested in the hazard light but need first to understand how the wiring schematic. Need to see the relay and switch details to see how u are doing it. And thank u for fixing my first tyre puncture.

Pingster > U might want to see how much would bike shop offer for your bike to gauge its price. Then I would decide 2 hve Boonsiew fix the speedo as chances r that a buyer would want working speedometer n u can work the in the selling price.

FI and Motocross

Today I cycle all the way to Marina south hoping to see the Motocross stunt competion. But the $15 dollar entrance fee puts me off although it included the Powerboat race. Siaz , I just cycle to the edge n just watch the powerboat race

Air Filter

As told by Boon Siew...the guideline is...18000km or 2 years....whichever comes first....Blowing your Air filter...i was told...our air filter is not the type that can be blown to clear the dirt or dust...something got to do with the material....as long as your bike perform to your expectations...that will be enuff...

Air Filter Fitters>>> Good job!...i do agree the point that...next time...want to change air filter...make sure the tank is not full...if not heavy!....:cheeky:

Keep it coming!...

i got to agree on this point...

cos frankly, there is very little improvement after i changed the air filter.. i feel like abit more easier to hit 120.. *on downhiills* with drittle not turned to the max.. and bit more response... but well.. i suppose if your on a budget...

every 2 - 21/2 change air filter .. would be ok..

on the issue of 'speedometer' since saturday till now... my meter has been working !!

:)

i think (like what pingster mentioned) remove and reattach the meter.. make the meter works .. for a while...dont know till when before the meter start giving me problems again..

but advise for the other bikers whos parks in open car park and meter is still ok... coudl advise u eother cover your bike regularly... or just cover the meter part.. im pretty sure the wet condition is the cause of poblem on my meter.. as now since i parked in covered carpark at work and home..meter has been quite ok...

So daniyal, for your meter.. can i suggest this

1) open battery contact points, clean it, attach back

2) remove speed sensor on front wheel, clean it and attach back

3) remove speedo meter, clean it abit.. check make sure all rubber plugs at back are all secure and attach back...

and also.. find a small water proof material (like raincoat material) to cover your meter area when u park in the open...

this might.. revive your speedo meter...

for my speedo, it had been dead for almost 9 months liao........

i just had this scary .. thought... since the speedo is so easily removable..

arnt you glad... not much people own vara125 ...else .... we will see ADs in the 'garage sale'

Original 2nd Hand Stock Vara 125 Speedo. Selling for : $300

And we will hear of people who's speedo got stolen..and then when ever we park the bike.. we will have to remove the speedo and keep in the box....
