Just to share with you all...

Yesterday I was going in BKE towards PIE(changi airport)

My vara 125 which was running in 85km/hr speed slowly engine stalled, then I filtered to SH, I thought petrol over then I put to reserve, then later could not start the bike, after 5 minutes start again I put to 1st gear slowly moved off then changed to 2nd gear and open throttle, slowly engine stalled, then tried to start could nt start for 10 mins, then slowly pushed the bike to petrol kiosk put full tank. Then start again I put to 1st gear slowly moved off then changed to 2nd gear 3rd gear and open throttle, slowly engine stalled, cannot start the bike, kept trying these for half-hour then no choice to tow the bike to mechanic, went to ah koon shop opposite to VICOM(bukit batok), he tested and repaired, he said wire shorted below the seat and charged me 35$ total. Dont know how it happened, hw the wire canna like that, I was going in the 1 st lane of expressway, bike breakdown middle of the road man, feeling very scared now. Does anything like this happened to anyone. Please tell how to prevent the wire shorting. Experts advice needed. Only started to ride the bike for 1 week, Was having high hopes on the bike, now gone oready.... somebody plz motivate me. thanks

Info abt my bike:

Varadero 125

Bike no. FW plate

Bike was properly maintained regularly serviced in Ah Koon shop opposite to VICOM(bukit batok) by the previous owner, looks new.

The bike itself is perfectly fine provided nobody (including mechs) have handled it before. For first hand bike, he mech will need to install the IU unit. This is the usualy case. My guess is that somebody might have not installed the wiring properly. Some mechs will not install the wiring properly and might cause some loose wiring.

Anyway u mentioned that it was owned by someone else before. FW plate, i supposed it's about 2-3 years. So between the 2-3 years, something might have happen to the wiring problems.

Any idea what the previous owner have done to your bike before?

The 1st owner can only recall changing the rectifier, thats all and no wiring probz faced before. I am so worried this probz might happen again to me or somebody else riding Vara 125...

changing the rectifier?

What causes rectifier problems is due to the wiring. Do you happen to install any additional accessories that require wirings.

Eg. horns, auxillary lights, hazard lights, voltmeter, etc etc.

Things that might cause wiring problems is the absence of relays, fuses in the connections. This is from what i experience.

Usually the rectifier will not have any problem unless u have done something to the bike's electrical components.

Hi…all Vara bros, Peace…

Chander_vr>> .. did you noticed which wire for what load ( IU, Lightings etc ) that was ‘tested and repaired’. its good to keep track of items at fault. exposed wire insulations, poor grounding and loose connectors may cause short circuit. wire shorts can cause the 10A fuse to blow. blown fuse for the ignition circuit in turn, cause engine to stall. also, don’t rule out the battery too. pairing new rectifier with an old, almost expiring battery sometimes don’t work well. it’s the same with new drive chain with a set of old worn out sprockets.

its normal to feel what you’re experiencing.tip: if there’s any slightest indication of sudden ‘weirdness’ on the bike while riding , instinctively react to safety first. also, practise ( somewhere safe enough) to switch the petrol reserve whilst on the move too. ever heard of sad stories about engine stalling in middle road because of empty fuel tank?

take this as learning experience. IMO.. no such thing as always a 'smooth ride' bro.

wow Aikon Bro, well said man, to add..

wen i just got ME bike.. i think less then 1 week.. i was in 2nd lane of AYE... with all the trailer congesting the 3rd and 4th lane...suddenly power loss, suddenly bike stall... middle of lane 2 & 3..

all the bas***d trailer just HORN at me.. i was freaking out in the middle of the road.. made my way.. eventually to the Road SH...

Found out.. its bec.. no petrol...

sure enough a learning experience...

the thing about all this electrical.. it can mess up ur bike.. if not fixed properly.. mine.. the GIVI box.. has light on it.. when u hit brakes.. apprantly the way the wireing is set up.. well after a while it caused problem.. so severe that...when i on the bike.. engine runs but ALL electrical (incl signal, headlight, speedo..w as DEAD!) I freaked out.. cos replaced fuse and fuse is blown when its repalced..

Its all a huge learning experience..

Ona different topic.. AIKON.. thanks for the TIP.. apprantly it was my clutch cable.. too loose or something .. so when i clutch in i was really all the way in.. thus.. hard to drop gear and cant go to neutral... yesterday i made it tighter.. and it works now..

Only course of concern.. is this a sign that the clutch cable is failing soon.. as in its over stretching? my clutch cable to date is about 3++ years old....

Also anyone knows how much is the correct clutch cable cost..?

thanks all

ALso.. anyone want to join in to change their fork seals on this Sat (morning lah.. so lesser bikes)

visual>> my clutch cable partially snapped a few weeks ago, it was very difficult to change gear, but still manage to get to N-Trust, called them to order clutch cable (original), cost $50, if you go to other places, it could be higher

That time N-Trust didn't charge me with any workmanship. my clutch cable should be around 3 years plus too.

before it partially snapped, i had that same experience whereby it was kind of difficult to change gear weeks before hand, but i thought it was nothing.. until i heard the snapping sound..
