I hav recently change my rear brake pad n the tyre did not turn smoothly when i try to spin it wif my hand.. n sound lik it is rubbing against the disk.. would lik all pros to pls advise me on this? Is it normal that wheel don turn smoothly when changing new brake pad? Thank u all so much!!

Because you have worn the old brake pads down.. the caliper pistons have been extended out of their housing to push the pads onto the disc. Brake dust have coated the pistons... and now the mechanic just push back the pistons in order to fit your new brake pads which are thicker... the brake dust coated pistons are now binding on the caliper and they cannot retract but are stuck in place, even when you release the rear brake.

 

The brake pistons should have been cleaned and lubricated before they were pushed back to accept the new brake pads... but this was obviously not done.

ah. that explains quite a bit.

 

does this warrant a the calipers needing a o-ring replacement?

Thank u all so much for replying!! Jus one question.. how to make the rear whell very smooth? nid to service the rear brake? Cos i try to spin the wheel of X1R at a mscp and to my surprise its spin duper smooth!!! Anyone noe why?

Nope... not all the time. Only if there are leaks and after confirming that the leaks are not caused by a scratched piston.

 

So you can still remove the pads, clean the pistons and reinstall? Alamak, already gave my mechanic the instructions to service the calipers.

It's good to have a smooth spinning wheel but don't be obsessed with getting it. As the bike ages, the rotor/disc will warp, rims will warp everything won't be straight and true and that would cause the friction you mentioned.

 

As long as you can brake properly and the brake is not 'binding' you are good to go.

It's your damn bike, wash it yourself! You rinse your own mouth after you eat, don't you?
