Eversince i got my class2B in 2003, didnt manage to convince my parents for riding bike. my mum have been nagging me urging me not to ride bike coz dangerous even until now i am riding my class 2. Saying blah blah, "you might be riding safely but some cars do not give way to motorbikes." Its true nowadays from my road experience.

Had a similiar encounter, my mum is those hard-core anti bike type before. Refused to even let me sit on my cousin's TZR back in the mid 90s when I was 12. Started poly in 02, alot of spare time to tot of taking car licence but eventually decided to take bike after 02 xmas as i know i wont be able to drive one so young and so pointless to own one.

Completed 2b in 5 months but still lie to mum that i still learning car, took the money from car lesson pluz some savings bought my first bike full cash: WR200 in 03 (Full cash = safer option). Ride, hide, cover, check letterbox everyday for LTA letters and etc - you name it i did all to hide my bike. Until one day, tio spotted by the clothes im wearing on the road, kana fu*ked upside down for many weeks. o_O

In the end, after see-ing my determination playing scrams, she bought me my XR400 even before i got my 2A, then sold my XR, bought Spec3, then CBR600.. Not a word cus she knew i will be careful when riding, but now she dont know im riding CBR600 cus my parents wont be scolding me for riding anymore but more to the $$$ spend nowadays..

I guess, its not the words you say before you buy a bike is more to u to show them you will be safe after u buy ur bike. Youngster mah, young and dangerous..Seriously nowadays, i dont heard any stupid crashes on the riders part but more to those stupid drivers nowadays.

Well, if u havn't enlisted, you could try the way i did.

I told my dad, (mom was okay with it ironically enough) that whilst in service, most army camps are in ulu parts of sg and it would be a hassle to take public transport to get to work :cheeky:

also, if they are afraid of the financial issues, say that can moonlight and get extra $$ to pay for the bike! :cheeky:

Hi SBForumer, I juz got my new bike licence last month and was excited about it. However, my excitement was short lifted cos my parents don't allow me to get a bike. Their reasons was simply because it was dangerous.

Anyone out there have any great ideas how to convince them for approval?

ok i tink most here suggest u buy bike first den settle d war wif ur parents later. and d most likely outcome they will relent. but i tink its better u got their err blessings first. getting a bike is like getting married la. u muz know how to take care of yourself n ur wife/bike...

I think, therefore I am..

Seems like the consensus so far.
