David>>Wow nice trail, but I got phobia after the last fall, seeing the pics reminds me the fall. Did Philip changed his bike? Didn't spot his AT.

BTW, my Vara got its stator coil down after 5years of ride, diagnosed with only AC 3.4 volts during charging, shld be AC 50 volts, Thks to my Voltmeter which telling me the symptom earlier. Changing the coil on saturday @ $300 (include gasket & labour, coil = $250)

Its not how much have u done it, its have u did it?http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p290/Tonyzx11/P1000395.jpg

Hi, I just got my 02' Vara and have been doing some reading here and other sites about the fuel pump. I would like to get it changed as I don't wanna be stranded somewhere. Can any one advice if I should go ahead to Motoworld to get it done? Is this is the best solution? Thanks!

varadero8212>>Thks for the invitation....can't make it this coming sat..I will try to arrange a meetup nextweek for all the ex-vara & vara bro for kopi. PM me ur contact. Hope to c u..

Axis>> You can get it at Motoworld ard 65-70 bucks. Always bring spare fuelump for the trip ride.My last OEM fuel pump breakdown ard 24000km. My new pump still working well.

TonyVaras>> What is the symptom for the breakdown of startor coil. eg difficult to start or ??? What is the reading range for the voltmeter, so that we can monitor it. Anyway where is the coil & how to test it. Just lazy to refer to the guide book. Maybe u can share with us. What is ur mileage for the bike....If i'm not wrong ,Kenny change his gasket after 10000km.

Philip still with his AT bike....the mud trail during the 1st May day ride remind me about your bike during our ride at GT. Kekee...

Ok, this is my story - one fine day while i was riding (switch on headlight) i found my voltmeter reads 12.5 at rpm of 4000. When i come to a traffic light junction, my voltmeter drops to 12. This is the symptom of no charging.

I quickly switch off the headlight and throttle to 3000 rpm. The voltmeter shoot to 14.5. I thot the charging came back. I continue to ride and on my headlights. My voltmeter reading drop to 12.5 again. So i summarise that there is no enough charging when my headlight is on (by the way I have a digital voltmeter which reads the actual voltage).

I changed my battery (thinking was the battery fault). The problem persist. The next thing I could think of was the rectifier. I changed and the problem still persist. Another thing I could think of was the stator coil. So i unpluged the connector to the rectifier with a AC voltage test. 1 of the pin was giving reading of only 3.5 volts AC at 3000 rpm. The other was read at 50 volts AC at 3000 rpm (the coil was separated into at least 2 parts. 1 is for the ignition coil, the other is for the electrical supply of the bike).

The coil is at the left side of the engine inside the round cover near the gear shifter.

My mileage u wouldn't want to know..... Anyway im keeping the bike til its life ends.

Regarding the coil, my bike is about 5 years old with 100,000km on the clock when i changed it as i was doing my valve clearance and timing chain replacement.

Half my coil was black, while the other half was still an alright colour but since it was opened and already 100,000km, decided to change it anyway.

Hi ATwin, Please let me know too if there are any meet ups. I'll PM you my contact.

I just go my pump changes at Motoworls yesterday for $55. It seems that it is not the original and it's a car's pump. Any idea how long this will last?

Hi Guys, Been riding with my original screen which seems to create a lot of turbulence. I can hear it from the noise generated.

I have ordered the Powerbronze screen from Biketech mainly for cosmetic looks, is this any better? I believe there are holes on the lower section of the screen to reduce turbulence, does it work?

Thanks!

Trex>> Long time no c.....what naked bike u want. Any design to show us.

Axis>> I'm using the powerbronze now , got it from bike tech21 at $135. Anyway given the choice , i still prefer the Big Givi wind screen. U have extra cash u can get the MRA at moto world..The still have stock but price increase to $240...

Riddick>> i think need to re-adjust my dyno jet kits...fuel consumption still high.

Hi ATwin, Thanks for your feedback but I have already placed a deposit with Biketech. I was considering the MRA one and yes the price is quite steep but it's a two pc. I hear from others that the top screen tends to vibrate when going at speed which swayed my decision. Anyway shall tryout the PBronze.

Hi Chris, Mersing trip sounds good for a rookie like me. Sure will like to join you guys.

Friday nite not good for me, I think Trex did mention going in for petrol on Fri nite too.

DAvid,

Alive and well! just sian...waiting for my suspension to come in..will change both back and front. Sprockets and chain also prob change...soon i will top overhaul the engine...no choice..bike hit 140,000km already.

Powerbronze screens are good. I even ordered twice from shah cos some idiot banged into my bike in a carpark and scooted off, leaving a cracked windscreen. Besides the original, they are the only ones i used..so biased la...haha..

givi ones got no holes..and i was afraid of buffeting..but the guys dun experience it, so i may be just paranoid...

MRA ones are ugly (again personal feeling - i sooo like to disturb william abt his)....

abt the starter coil, i changed at abt 100,000 if i rem correctly. Mine was screwed and symptoms are as tonyvaras described. My mech tested it that way too after changing the batt and checking with the rectifier. (Always check the cheaper stuff first :))

Mersing is good as ever. Went over there last weekend via Kluang for a recce and also catch fishes along the Kluang highway...corners will be much more enjoyable with better suspensions man...

Riddick, let us know more abt the anakees after you have put some kilos in them man..I wanna know more abt the wearing rate of the buggers esp after reading reviews abt them..
