Hello vara friends.

I'm shah from ipoh perak.

My '04 vara now needs to change rear suspension.

And since it's very hard to get vara stuffs in MY, i'm planning to get the changes in SG.

Pls advise me which brand of rear suspension suits with our vara & how much does it cost.

Thank you.

Hi Shah,

Welocme to SG Vara.....I can only assist u the various range of rear shock that most of our bros have been using. The oem really sucks! ...maybe bcos of our fargers too heavy. If you have deep pockets can invest on the Ohlins shock cost around sin $2k plus with installation. Can ride you bike directly to Sin and let the mech fixup within one day (need appointment). Lower range such as wilbers, hypero & technoflex will cost less than sin 1K (Have to special order bcos they don't keep stock).

Which part of Ipoh are you staying bcos we have a bro who bought a house at ipoh and we plan to visit Ipoh soon. Maybe we can arrange to meet u at ipoh , pm me ur contact for the arrangement

hey ATwin. i have a handle on the bike at the moment. however, what seems to be missing is a little piece of metal on the base of the stand. i don't know how that would make a difference but anything to help would be good because i was not able to put it on the centre stand at all today. damn!

did u ask the previous owner how he managed? mine was great in running through everything, esp the part abt getting it up and off the mainstand when i expressed my doubts abt being able to do it on my own.

absolutely...he made it look quite easy...in fact...i am definitely sure i don't have the technique right. it always looks simple when someone else is doing it...and it becomes completely different when i try it myself...:faint:

u ought to meet up with the VARA group and perhaps someone will be able to point out where the issue lies.

i am a relatively new vara rider myself - since dec 2011 but a weekend rider. owned it since oct 2011 but without a class 2 licence to ride it back then.

Normally, I'd top up whenever I cross the 2nd Link, so I wont really know the consistent figure.

There was once it came on at ard 340km (I think).

More recently, it came on below 300km, but this has to be an exception because I was trying to catch up with a R1 and CBR1000 ard 180-190 for quite a stretch... and it came on much earlier than anticipated.

I believe fc is ard 17km/l.

My final word on getting the bike up onto the centre stand. I found a way that seems to work more reliably for me. I put my right foot onto the lever of the centre stand, prop the bike onto both feet of the stand, left hand on the left handlebar grip, right hand on the left pannier rack (next to the pillion grab rail), body facing the bike, right elbows locked straight, I step straight up onto the centre stand (the locked right elbow helps this) and I pull up on my right hand while keeping my elbows locked. The bike will slowly but surely get onto the centre stand this way :)

Thanks to everyone who gave me tips along the way!
