I have something similar. First option is to drill into the body frame. Looks better.

Second option is to use a bracket. Then Bend it to fit on the engine mount or exhaust nut.

Cons is, heat from the exhaust may/spoil the unit.

I use a bad conductor metal for the bracket.

Hope this helps.

IU bracket.jpgbracket clip.jpgthanks for the advise, went down to first motor yesterday, got the bracket fabricated and mounted to engine frame with clips, choose not to weld since paintwork will be affected and might have corrosion problems later. Damage is $25 and about 2hours, good job and and friendly staff :).

Seng Kwang makes pretty decent stainless steel brackets on the spot. Cost abt $100 but the quality is very good

Just to check if there are any problems with the reading of IU when passing under erp gantry and carparks given the angle of the unit? Compared to the reference picture, yours is vertical rather than horizontal. Appreciate your feedback. Tks

hi tomsaw, no issue so far with carparks and erp, it is not vertical but angled slightly, less than 45degree. let you know the angle once i get a chance to look at it closer.

Thanks 105FX.

I am interested to do the same but to have the IU unit to be aligned with the frame. So it is likely to be angled more inwards.

Btw, what materials did First Motor use to fabricate the bracket for you? Stainless steel?

Posted

Just normal carbon steel, welded to form a T, then painted The whole thing black which match the frame. Will try to make the iu black once the warranty expires. First motor might not have stainless steel welding capability, do check before heading down.

Hi tomsaw, as promised, the IU angle is 30degrees from the bike frame, right side view.

Are you asking abt servicing cost? Harley has a routine service charge , think I might still have it somewhere, let me know if u need it.
