Hi Mr Biker, I understand where you are coming from. I suggest u seriously check your rights under lemon law and let us know. But for me, I think the distributor deserve at least a chance to rectify the problem. Most of the time it is really not their fault. I’ve heard of maxsymers in pataya. The agent never put coolant into the bike then sell without telling them. lol..

After following this thread since the beginning for a year, I honestly think maxsym is doing well. If you look back the past 76pages (will take 24 hours) you will find most of the problems are either teething problems or one offs. Of course I can’t make you any promises (I may have been lucky). But if you want to play safe, then call CASE and ask them about your rights before you make a purchase. It’s probably the most responsible thing you can do for your wallet.

From what I guess, you would be comparing with a SW. quite frankly, every biker friend I know say SW is a great bike n I should have gotten it. But I just can’t get round the looks (single eye) or the price (new model). But from what I heard it has an awesome engine and it’s a 'won’t go wrong' kind of bike. But then again, no one can guaranty that you won’t buy a lemon. So then again, you are left asking if the person is selling the bike to wash his hands clean.

I bought my second hand maxsym about 2 months le. So I’ll do a short review. No problems with the bike. Fit n finish is great. When ride on the road always got people stare. Don’t know if the rest of you feel so anot.

Fuel consumption is reasonable. Around 320km to reach the empty bar. Works out to be around 27.5 km\l. for the power you get, I think 27.5 is pretty alright. If you want good fuel economy, get a PCX or a Fino. They seem to run on air.

Off the line pick up is excellent, you will be infront of most (if not all) bikes. This is due to both the power and the lack of clutch in time. Up to 100~110kmph. After which I personally find the rpm abit high. (5000+ rpm)

At 5100rpm (around 110kmph) to 6000rpm the bike goes into Ki Siao mood. If you have driven a turbocharged car, it feels exactly like the turbo kicking in. a low rumble forms as you are pushed back into your seat. Turn of speed is really quick which is great for overtaking.

I am currently looking into changing roller weights to decrease the cruising rpm at 110kph to lower than 5k. I think this will greatly enhance the cruising experience. Any suggestions guys?

I would recommend using a full face helmet. Tried using a half face and found it pretty unbearable past 110kph. Full face helmet on the other hand is a nice and quiet affair.

My current tire pressure is 33fr 39 back. I know it is very high. But was recommended by previous owner and I think he is right. Although I may lower the front to 31 because of the poor quality of the tire (stock). The previous owner changed the rear tire to Metzeler FeelFree Wintec. Awesome tires. The slits in the Wintec model actually compresses the tire to the ground creating more contact with the ground (double according to Metzeler) for better grip and warming. The tire makes me feel really safe on the wet. Only problem is that I’m still using Maxxis on the front. So I’m kind of itching to change the front. But they are still pretty new :( As warned my ah Choong before I bought the bike, maxsym tires are Very expensive. So I think checking tire pressure regularly keeps the right pressure on your wallet too :)

Things I like about the bike:

- Looks (keep on bio-ing my own bike after parking it)

- Power (great power delivery)

- Stability (although it should be expected with a bike this size n weight.)

- Sitting position (backrest is adjustable. I shifter it forward and found that it is a perfectly comfortable position to ride. I am 170)

- Rain protection (bike protects pillion and rider from light rain pretty well)

- Brakes (matched with the right tires, they are extremely effective)

- Large under seat compartment (I put one ff and one hf helmet and 2 set of rain coats.)

Some things to note/can be improved on the bike include:

-the under seat compartment is an oven after you ride the bike. So storing ice cream there is not advised.

-the seat locks are in the wrong position (waste space in the boot). Think they should have just put one at the back.

-the under seat compartment light is not strong enough to light up the back of the boot.

-One of the 'rings' on the exhaust is rusty. Which is weird considering everything else is pristine.

-the key lock flap automatically shuts when you pull out the key. I know it’s a safety feature, but it’s a little annoying.

-stock tires are not very good. It’s probably better to be safe than sorry.

-seat is a little on the hard side. Sat on the SYM GTS 200/300 and they are so much softer!

- Plastics seem to be of great quality. But it has not been time proven I really hope it does not fade like the GTS. But then again there are ways to maintain and refurbish plastics.

-the bike has very poor resale value from new. Buy this bike only if you intend to ride it for long. If not you will be in for a rude shock if you sell it off after a year. However if you buy it second hand, it’s a good thing for you.

Things i wished the bike had:

-Key-less start ( like Daelim S3 125. anyone know any after market stuff?)

-Auto Stop/Start ( like Honda PCX 125. when the bike stops. the engine cuts. it then starts again when you twist the throttle)

bro, you bought the maxsym is with dr. pulley clutch and sliders is it? i think the guy is using 16grm sliders. personally i tried 18grm sliders before(without HiT clutch), not really significant improvement on the cruising RPM, and you lose a lot of overtaking power at 110km, so i went back to 16grm original rollers. Also another thing i found out when Ah Choong was replacing my sliders to rollers is that...the dr pulley sliders did some minor scratch to the "bowl". Ah Choong told me better to use rollers as the slider will "thin" your bowl over time as it keeps scratching it. I was using the sliders for only 5000KM and replaced back with original, coz i kiasi.. =p but ya, sliders definitely has better pickup compared to original rollers. i guess parts that improve performance always has more wear and tear.

Weekdays or weekends?

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y192/brendanchin/balls_1.jpg

If you're riding a bike but not calculating the 50 possibilities in the 50 meters of road ahead of you, then you're dangerous and shouldnt be on one.

Hi bro, thank for the tip. my bike is fully stock. so it should be running on rollers. so if i increase the weight of the rollers i should get better cruising rpm? Thank :)

Yes bro. Higher weight lesser pick up and lesser Rpm at cruising.

Do u guys encounter problem when u start the engine straight after switching on the ignition key?

wats the problem u encounter? i usually start once the fuel pump finish priming (the whining sound), but i have also started immediately after switch on ignition wen in a rush. no difference. i rmb u mention u have to throttle wen starting if not engine will die isit? if its consistently behaving like that, y not drop by Mah and show them?

on ur own, u could try the ECU reset. search on google should be able to the find the post by a fellow M'sian maxsym rider. i did that for mine wen i initially install open-pod filter. cux i notice that after installing, wen i start the engine, it sounds like it wants to stall for a moment before the RPM rises. so it could be ur ECU fueling might be abit haywire. no harm trying. after i did the reset, engine starts better and throttling seems smoother.

a group of malaysian Maxsym owners went for a ride to Penang. We had the opportunity to visit the local Sym assembly plant. Unfortunately I am not allowed to post the plant visit pics publically but anyway there is one tip I'd like to share with you all on how to manually reset Maxsym ECU.

I was informed by one of the SYM tecnical managers there, that you need to perform the manual reset ECU procedure when:

1- connecting the battery and starting the maxsym (new) for the first time

2- when you installed accessories such as -

a) hid lights, additonal rear brake light from case ( Givi, shad etc)

b) connect any additional power source from battery

3- when you replaced the battery

4) when you replaced the exhaust with aftermarket products

5) when you removed, dismantled or replaced anya of the 12 ECU sensors

here's the procedure to manually reset your ECU

1- double stand your Maxsym

2- switch on the key while twisting the throttle to the max (DO NOT START THE ENGINE)

3- wait for at least six second (or until the fuel pump mechanisim whirring noise stops)then switch off the key

4- switch on the key, start the engine and twist the throttle @ 5000rpm

5- hold on to the throttle @ 5000rpm till you hear the fan radiotor kicks in (yu have to place you ear really close to the glove compartment to determine that the radiator fans kicks in...during this procedure you will notice that the manifold wil turn to red hot glowing dont worry ,no harm is done)

6- once the radiator fan kicked in, release the throttle and let the engine idle for 15 minutes

7- switch off the engine USING the start stop button, then switch off the key

8- the process is done

how to know the manual ECU reset is done correctly?

1-start the engine

2- twist the throttle from 0RPM to 8000rpm

3- you will notice that the rpm needle moves slowly to the max rpm

4- the twist the throttle to 5000 rpm hold it there for 1-2 second then twist it to maximum rpm

5- you will notice the rpm needle moves slower to reach 5000 rpm but faster between 5000rpm-8000rm (STCS kicks in)

hope this info helps you all, cheers

hey guys, how many of you did this ECU reset? got any difference?
