Hi,

I am new to the forum, planning a trip to watch the Malay GP next month and would love any advice you could provide such as buying bike near KL to ride while in Malay, where to find Cagiva Mito parts, must see motorcycle destinations, etc.

Thanks,

AJ

Hi.

I assume you know that the Malaysian MotoGP is held in Sepang, Selangor, Malaysia. Sepang is about 500km from Singapore - where this Singaporebikes forum is hosted and targeted.

Having said that, Sepang is relatively near to Singapore and is a popular race/track destination for the sporting bike enthusiasts here in Sg.

Generally, motorcycles prices in Malaysia is quite affordable as far as small bikes lesser than 200cc are concerned. For bikes bigger than that the cost goes up exponentially as the cc goes up. So its not really feasible to buy and sell later just for very short term use.

Rental may be a better option, although most rentals are for small bikes, though I would be wary of its condition.

Cagiva is rare in Malaysia and parts for these if it can be found will be very expensive. Singapore is a better bet to find these parts although, again this particular model is rare and again parts by the importer are not comprehensively stocked. You can see this link ( http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/181-Mah-Pte-Ltd) for the stockist to enquire.

Roads in Malaysia to ride.

1. The roads from the foot of Cameron Highland to the top of the Highlands. These are tight twisties with sometime unpredictable cant-be-seen-around corners surprises!

2. Gua Musang highway from Cameron Highland to Gua Musang - Great highspeed sweepers over greater scenery.

3. Nearer to Singapore, in the state of Johore is the Jalan Mersing road - about 50km worth of twisties.

4. Twisties uo to Frasers hills.

5. Gerik loop (northern Malaysia) - mix of twisties, slow village scene and great sweepers.

For long (boring) highway blasts - the north-south expressway from johor to Thailand is a must try. Watch for pocket emptying speed cops trying to convince you that you are speeding.

Watch out for bike theft at Sepang MotoGP week.

Enjoy!

From what I know OP the big bikes there in Malaysia have higher taxes applied to them, making their prices 1.5 to 2 times higher than that of Singapore. Some say it's tax on luxury products & services but I digress.

Psst....

Sepang is just 315km (190mi) from Singapore thereabouts, a 4-hour leisurely drive from there :)
