Hi guys, all I want to do is to change my air valve stem quickly and cheaply, while maintaining the same rubber.

1. I saw YouTube vids that need you to "break the bead" and use a new tire. That's not what i want.

2. I saw a video on using G-Clamp to temporarily open the tyre and reach in to change just the valve.

I have 2 qns. If breaking the bead is bad, how do people sell second hand tyre after track session to other people?

Next qn, I want to do the G clamp method and save myself labour fee, is it feasible?

Thanks so much

Breaking the bead will not damage the tire if done properly.

However if the bead is somehow damaged when trying to lever out the tire, the tire cannot be used anymore.

What is a bead? I thought the tire thing is just some rubber thing, then it will "fit and seal" itself nicely to the rims?

Google your question. I find it difficult to provide a good answer.

Thanks.

Can be done but not easy, you also need compressed air to seat the bead after you have done with the tire valve. Normal bicycle pump won't build enough pressure to "pop" it.

I'd suggest you wait till the next tire change to replace the valve. Tubeless tires by nature are more difficult to manipulate compared to tube tires, and will need compressed air (as described by Phang) to re-seat the bead.

Chances of damaging the tire bead are high if you are not careful. Clamping or levering the tire are not exactly "gentle" actions.

Thanks for the kind advice. I probably need to do the 2 activities separately because my air valve will take time to arrive but the rubber

Is near the end of life.

Maybe do it at a nearby petrol kiosk.

Bead is the inner edge of the tire that seals against the rim.
