Why bother going thru all that trouble just to take it out if you're gonna change to a new pair? Simply cut it with a cutter/penknife and throw the old one away..Then just simply insert the new one in..dab a tiny drop of water in the grips and slide them on..

I have tried to see things from your point of view..But no matter how hard I try..Or what I do..I just can't get my head that far up my butt..

is it neccessary to apply adhesive (double-sided tape etc.) to the new grips when installing?

no need.. when go bike shop, u can use the air-spray, one hand spray air, one hand push in the handle grip..

same apply to removing the handle grip..
