Buying a used Bike (privately)

Hi Guys,

 

Hoping you can help me out, im foreigner but have been here just over 2 years. I used to ride back in Australia and am now looking to buy a bike in Singapore to get to work everyday. however would like some assistance/tips on buying used.

 

- is there a register where i can check to make sure that seller actually owns the bike eg, no loan on it?

- best place(s) to take to have it looked over before purchase to make sure mechanically ok?

1) If its on loan, the transfer of ownership which will done over at LTA sin ming will not go through. LTA will reject the application. So, do not make any payment before transfering of ownership is done.

 

2) What you mean is test ride. Depends if the owner lets you ride it. But pls note dat riding without a valid insurance is an offence. Otherwise, bring someone down who is familiar with the bike when viewing.

You can call LTA, give them the registration number and ask them to check if the bike is still under loan.

 

It really depends on what bike you are buying. If you're getting a small bike, just about anywhere will do. Planet Motors in Paya Lebar is good. However, if you are planning to get 'exotic' bikes, you would have to go to a specialized shop or the dealer.

You can see the bike plate number and do this check online on LTA website also.
