Hi guys!

I'm kinda new to the whole biking scene and I've been doing a little bit of research on what kind of 2B bikes, helmets I shld get, etc etc..

But the whole lot of information is kinda overwhelming, will appreciate it if bros out there can offer some advice.

A few things about me, I'm 1.86m tall, weighs about 75kg, and 23 yrs old.

Currently I'm deciding between with these bikes, any recommended shops to get them 2nd handed?:

-FZ16 (it is even possible to find a 2nd hand? lol)

-YBR 125 (what's a good price for a 2nd hand?)

-X1-R (friend selling me at 3.3k with 5 yrs coe left, well-maintained, is it worth it?)

I'm trying to keep my budget for insurance and other what nots within $4~5k, don't know if it's possible with these bikes? Say I'm getting them with probably 5 years coe left or something :)

There's this question that's been bugging me. A lot of people has been saying that tall people cannot ride sports bikes? Is it really true? Any tall bike riders care to share their experience? :D

What's a good 2B sports bike to get for a 4~5k budget?

I'm deciding between two helmets, HJC CL-ST and HJC FG-15, any bros out there using these helmets? :D

regarding 2nd hand bikes, forum has some posts where they list what to look out for (danger signs) and stuff. If can bring along an experienced bike buddy to go and see the bikes with you.

helmets wise, there are lots of choices. it's ultimately how much you price your safety and stuff. And whether or not you want to pay more for a PSB approved one. I heard in some posts that if u get into an accident while wearing a helmet that is not psb approved insurance might not cover your head injuries or whatever. Not sure if it's true. But better safe than sorry.

If you looking at 4-5K region get a bike around 3-4K cause all the gear and accessories you are going to buy and insurance and all will amount to between $500-$1000...

Hello, i recently started riding about 3 months back, and my choice of poison was a Honda NSR SP. I got a AGV K3 fullface helmet too. Personally, i am 1.79m tall.

Tall people can ride sports bikes, no problem. But depends how low your front is adjusted to, you may have more stress on your forearms if it's adjusted lower.

FZ16 is not impossible to get second hand, but you will have to pay quite a bit for it as it is relatively new.

My friend managed to source out a 6-mth old CBR150R for 6k on the road. And frankly, i would highly advise that if you are getting a 2b sports bike to go 4-stroke. CBR150 is a safe choice. The older version is just as reliable, and fits within your budget, although it might look like a toy bike with your frame. The newer CBR150R will look better, but more expensive.

2-strokes are fine, but most are old, likely to be 10yrs old at least for KRR and SP. You may need to spend even more on maintenance so generally not worth it. I had to spend about $900 on mine just to replace faulty/old parts as i did not check it properly, so replacing bent forks and piston ring etc was costly. Mixing 2T can be a bit troublesome too if you go the premix route, which i did as i did not want my life to rely on a mechanical thing called 2T reservoir which may fail anytime if my luck bad and cause piston jam.

As for helmet, i have no experience with your choices, but all i can say is that, find something that fits you well. Not too tight, not too loose. For me, the AGV K3 works like a charm, perfect fit, lightweight. Costs about $250, which is relatively affordable.

Your insurance will likely be about 1-1.2k for your age grp if you go sports bike route, but depends on the bike too. Mine for SP (high-risk bike) is about 800-1k, i can't remember, and i'm 27. Not sure about road tax, COE, but do consider them too. Remember to consider possible other hidden expenses like season parking if you stay HDB as well.

Hope all this is useful to you.

RIDE.
