Greetings all,

I would like to know more about gearing and stuff.

For example the same ratio but different sprocket teeth front&rear such as 15/45(ratio 3) vs 16/48(ratio 3).

What is the advantage for having bigger combination as oppose to smaller combination?

Does it affect the chain wears?

Does it affect suspension?(read somewhere it does to a certain extend but dont quite get it)

Does it affect the how the engine works?(stressing the engine)

Does it affect the wear rate of the counter shaft teeth?

Hey bro. Just telling you what i know. Smaller sprockets will mean more stress on the teeth, which will mean a higher wear rate. Chain is also shorter. This will also cause more stress on the chain.

For the bigger sized sprocket, you may have clearance issues, ie. Engine cover/crankcase, chain guard.

Changing the sprocket size, even to keep the same ratio, will affect the angle of the chain line. This will affect the squat of the bike on acceleration.

Different machines can be setup for different uses, depending on your purpose for the bike. There will be other differences that will make one pair more suitable than another. If in doubt, stick to stock.

Be careful what you read in this forum. Alot of the information can be misleading. If you see something u're not sure about, read up from multiple sources. Your bike is an asset.

The tendency for your rear suspension to compress, ie the angular motion of your swingarm in relation to the chasis, when you accelerate?

Biting on the fray of my hair, I muse upon the way to find the oasis of evermore beyond the vertical horizon, I shall join the windupdeads in owl city, neither my safetysuit nor my red jumpsuit apparatus can save me, cuz I mistook a death cab for cutie in plain white T's...
