Hi guys, I will be going to KL in a few weeks time and thinking of riding up all the way.

But this will be my first time heading up. Wonder if anyone gone before know how the traffic there is like? I've heard the traffic can be very dangerous and chaotic, like Thailand/Vietnam or worse?

You'll encounter people who turn without indicating a lot, especially in traffic jam. Just remember to go slow enough so that u can stop in time if that happens.

They generally don't like the idea of bikes sharing lanes with them, unlike Singapore.

And otw up better if u can keep to the left most lane after Mlk, you'll get alot of speedsters. Unless you're planning to cruise at 180kph, do stay on the 2nd or 3rd lane.

I ever saw a yaya S4 rider hogging the NSHW on lane 1 doing 150 while cars are queuing up behind him. It only take a frustrated driver to knock him down and get on with their journey, uninterrupted.

All the best.

Oo by sharing lanes do you mean, they don't like if I lane split? Or I take one lane myself like car? Hah, because in SG I nicely queue up all the time :p

Not really. But I think they have less awareness of riders going between cars as the federal highway has bike lanes. Other highways, just be careful when splitting la.

U can take one lane as long as you want, just don't hog the lane by letting a trail of vehicle follow u.

the thing about riding on the north south highway is that you have to look at your mirror very often to see what is coming from behind fast and that can be very tiring over long period of time. Car on right lane travelling speed 130 to 200. left lane a lot of lorry and buses. SO if you go too slow instead of looking forward you have to see behind very often too.sometimes i prefer to go by trunk road more scenic and traffic more steady but you cant go at warp speed on trunk road very dangerous.

Yes its chaotic but non-comparable to vietnam.. Its really a swarm of bees aka motorcycle there. But surprisingly no accident.

May i suggest if ur average speed is around 110-130 stick to the middle lane. 140-160 above u can take the extreme right lane. But always keep a lookout on your mirrors cos there will be vehicles faster than u. Just move and give way, no point challenging them..

But i might say riding in NSHW is indeed better than riding in Sg roads. The car do take notice when a motorcycle comes by at rather high speed and they will indeed give way.

Don't take this for granted though.

Importantly, have fun, enjoy and ride safely...

Totally agree...keep left unless over take. Pls dun bring your singapore style of riding to NSHW. Like Road hogging, have a rite of way and etc. Although you travel faster enough or cruising at legal speed. There always a faster vehicle coming car behind you.

cheers

My uncle was just given a legal warning when his scirocco was on lane 1 and a sports car came speeding right up his arse. Took 2 seconds too long to give way, the warning came two weeks after that. Sports car in question was a Veyron btw.
