i am not here to argue or dispute your Point of view. i am here to clarify some misunderstanding you may have as i believed you are NOT in the construction industry. ( ie. i WAS in the industry for 18 years before my retrenchment 2 years ago. )

MRT does NOT create more jobs for singaporeans. perhaps this only applies to a select few in LTA. my explanation is too long to type here. take a look at the companies doing those projects & look at their staff from managers, engineers, draftmen, technicians, safety officers, foremen down to general workers. look closer & you will find the answers. even half the LTA officers supervising my work in the MRT project where i worked are not singaporeans let alone the private contractors. nowadays, even the contractor's directors & ownership are probably foreign too!

i have no quarrel with you or anyone...just want to make sure more people are aware of the

TRUE REALITIES ON THE GROUND.

i also agree vehicle population need to be control but there are no easy solutions. however the high cost of COE & WORST is the 10 year lease is a huge burden on private businesses which affect everyone. we need fresh food delievered to supermarkets. we need vehicles to ferry workers & materials in construction or heavy industries. almost no one is unaffected.

along with high rentals & transport costs, businesses find it difficult to survive let alone be 'fair' & pay 'fair wages' to 'singaporean workers'...see the big picture & you can see how all these little things habe a big impact on everyone from bosses to workers. all these to only make a select few richer...

hint: i will just name 1 example as it is highly accessible. ie. Downtown line 2 - contract 920 ( newton mrt ). main contractor is Shanghai Tunnel ( china ). go down the line & you see a KOREA contractor, INDIA contractor, AUSTRIA contractor, rails are from either a FRANCE or CANADA company. who do you think they will prefer to employ in upper management. what about low wage engineers from asia? etc

these examples i can give off hand are just the tip of the iceberg, there are more but i don't want to be long winded...it is not just construction, the infiltration have entered most other industries from retail, f&b, hotels, even IT! only civil servants appear to be "safe" FOR NOW.

most middle agers are now taxi drivers & security guards...

WARNING! if anyone reading this post are unaware of all these, perhaps they are fortunate enough to work in industries that are still relatively SAFE FOR NOW. but be forewarned, if the status quo continues, the infiltration will slowly but surely maybe even swiftly enter other industries & domains.

remember always to be on guard. do not be caught off guard in 10 years time. i foresaw this back in 2001 but even i cannot avoid the inevitable. 75 % of singaporeans were happily in their false sense of security in 2001. now we see many whining & complaining nowadays...

First, I am not in the construction industry but I recognize the names - Shanghai Tunnel, Hyundai, Ssangyong. I knew there were many foreign construction workers in the MRT and HDB projects, but I didn't know that even the managers and engineers are now predominantly foreign. All I can say is that things are even worse than I (and many people I know) thought. Next, I agree with you that Cat C (commercial vehicles) COE is getting so expensive ($57,051 for 10 years as of now) that it hurts the SMEs. We can arguably leave Cat A, B and E to the market because those are more of "wants" than "needs". But Cat C (and to a small extent Cat D) are mostly "needs".

That said, I think Singapore's economy has grown unsustainably. We try to achieve unrealistic growth numbers in this gloomy global economic climate, and depend on cheap foreign labour to fuel the economy. We used to obtain it from Bangladesh; we now obtain it from China. This is not going to last long and Singapore will have nowhere to turn to eventually. The only way out is to admit the mistakes and change the economy. Unfortunately the leaders seem to be too busy fighting the fires that were created by the current economic growth model.

Oh by the way, the public service is not spared from the "foreign invasion". I deal with statutory boards all the time and many of them (especially the infrastructure builders) hire so many foreigners it is not even funny. Worse still, these foreigners can access confidential information and probably will not hesitate to talk about whatever they've seen when they return to their home countries. So much for "official secrets", eh?

Agree with u... Downtown line 1 - contract 913, main con is Korean company. Downtown line 3 - contract 903, main con French company joint venture with Singapore company... That's how I know the cost to build an mrt station... C913 uses Tunnel Boring Machine to dig the tunnel, C903 uses the cut and cover method, affecting the roads uneven surfaces. But not to worry, the bugis station is almost done!!! In a few more months, the roads will be smooth like before!!!

I certainly hope the roads will be smooth again. Bugis is in a mess.

sorry but i think you are mistaken about the Tunnel Boring & cut & cover methods. it is not relevant to the humps & bumps of the roads. no connection technically.

the humps & bumps are more due to temporary road diversions & mostly about TRIAL PITS. too technical to explain here...but just hope that you don't kanna hatam for saying wrong thing, the cut & cover got nothing to do with it.

to make the picture a bit clearer, there are some companies out there that may have a "local" name but it is actually sold to a foreign company. LOOK EVEN CLOSER & you will see it. the owners are foreign. upper management their own kind, technical, engineers, draftmen, safety, foremen, etc all from different asian countries. think it is just chinese, indian, filipino? burmese are catching up fast. even the malaysians are slowly being "shipped out". it is ironic that it has become like UN fighting each other.

even the labourers have changed from malaysians & koreans in the 80s, thais & chinese in the 90s, to Indians & bangladeshi. Most of the thais have already left for taiwan. PRCs are slowly returning to Booming China ( recent Smrt incident shows how pissed they were ), even some of my former more capable bangladeshis have gone on to middle east eg. Dubai where pay is better. who do you think stays in sg? lets be polite & say those that cmi to US, europe, australia etc...etc...what do you think of their abilities.

Dragon boy thinks by sucking up to these FTs, they will stay! he is seriously so deluded as he has been up that ivory tower so long. the PRCs & Indians that took over my job, openly declare they have no wish to stay for long. they replace locals now. when they leave, they were be replaced by even more inexperienced lower quality FTs that cmi elsewhere. Pinky is like a fool that is so isolated in his own island he cannot see the real HARD TRUTHS.

worse of all, the greatest lost of all is the OPPORTUNITIES for locals to work, learn the skills, gain the experience & networks. we become a self fulfilling prophecy of handicapped workers. even if we kicked out FTs, now we suddenly ask sg to take over, it is like we keep oppo parties out of parliment for so long that theybecome weak, suddenly we ask them to be PM & cabinet, run the country, really what do you think liao.

most youngsters with any ambition or want money do sales & agent liao, cause the pay in real jobs suck. youngsters do sales & property agents. old uncles just drive taxi.

Sg say why support oppo, oppo weak leh, dunno can or not. think like this long enough & it becomes another self fulfilling prophecy. just because i am a right hander, my left hand weak, i don't chop it off, i train my weak hand instead just in case.

if locals are happy with lightning, i got nothing to say. if not happy, then don't ask what can oppo do, ask what they WON'T DO ( ie. don't screw you , don'tmakes things worse, make Pinky scare a bit & reduce he screwing us, i very kam sia liao )

some educated guys talk about not opposing for the sake of opposing, quality of candidates, give lightning gang chance for conversation & change, let be civilised......

PS EDIT:

i really laugh & cry. you think pinky dunno what you think? he know but he no care cause he no scared. now your ass is burning you still bother about whether your helpers got degree , can talk properly or not boh? this people must have never seen gang negogiations before. ( ie. you bring 7 guys to negogiate with the gang leader of 80 which is bullying you, you think they will scared of you, listen to you, be fair to you. real world is not like school where your teacher or principal is fair to you. get real! if i was so "smart", lim peh now in coffin liao, what do this people learn in school? boss must be fair to you? pinky must be fair to you? you no fight for yourself, pinky also see you no up mah. si bei kan dan ( very simple logic )

if talking works, we don't need elections & democracy. might as well abolish elections since talking can solve everything. study so much for what? simple common sense also dunno. you know who you are. i no need say more. cake sim ( heart break ). degree, well educated some more! face palm!

lots of sg that does not understand the graveness & urgency of the situation on the ground is what SCARES me. it is like pigs being led to the slaughterhouse without knowing what the slaughterhouse is for. 2011 was supposed to be a LAST CALL, i just hope that heavens show mercy & pity on us & give up another last call in 2016. heavens please do show mercy!

15 years ago, i come across many sg that dislike msians, many maians like sg & want to be PR & citizens. Now, even the msians also don't want liao, even they can see the tide has turned. come to Jurong & you might be mistaken it is not singapore. i lived amongst FTs so i know what they think. i know how it feels to be a singaporean living in a home where you are a minority. my place is lightning stronghold, oppo got no chance because of the electorate, never mind, i just hope rest of singapore wake up FAST.

off topic i don't care

Hello Members,

At the end of the 10-year COE period, vehicle owners may choose to de-register their vehicle or to re-validate their COEs for another 10-year period by paying the applicable PQP or for 5-year period by paying half the PQP. For vehicles without statutory lifespan, there is no limit to how many times you can renew the COE so long as the COE is renewed for 10 years. The PQP is the moving average of the COE prices in the last three months. The PQP varies from month to month. If you wish to keep your vehicle registered beyond its current COE expiry date, you will need to renew the COE by paying the applicable PQP for your vehicle. If the COE is not renewed by the current COE expiry date, the vehicle will be de-registered.

Best Regards,

Anthony Martello

Add-on. The vehicle must either be send to the authorized scrapyard or exported within 30 days from the date of de-registration.

A tip for female hikers lost in the woods!

I noticed a news from CNN to share with you, guys!

1,Title: Sports bra saves hiker stranded in Alps

2,Contents: An American hiker stranded in the Bavarian Alps for nearly three days was rescued after using her sports bra as a signal, police in southern Germany said Monday.

Berchtesgaden police officer Lorenz Rasp said that he helped lift 24-year-old Jessica Bruinsma of Colorado to safety by helicopter on Thursday after she attracted the attention of lumberjacks by attaching her sports bra to a cable used to move timber down the mountain, not choosing Camping Accessories or Hiking Accessories as a tool.

3,Comment:"She's a very smart girl, and she acted very resourcefully," said Rasp. "She kept her shirt and jacket for warmth, but thought the sports bra could work as a signal."

4,My view: When you are in danger, no matter what type of way you take, it matters whether you can survive. So no matter what kind of Camping & Hiking Equipment you use, it's the best for surviving.

What's your view?
