Can a work permit holder purchase a motorcycle in Singapore

Hi Guys,

I am asking for a friend. He’s a Malaysian work permit holder and currently undergoing class 2b license and was wondering if he will be eligible to purchase or get a loan for his motorcycle? And how does the parking payment works in Singapore?

Short answer is yes, he can. Anybody can buy a motorcycle, even without a license.

1) Purchase motorcycle from shop/dealer

2) Purchase insurance for said motorcycle (another named rider as he does not have his license yet) so the rider can ride the motorcycle or tow it to his home

3) When he passes his Class 2B license, add his own name to the insurance and he can ride legally thereafter

Loan is irrespective of whether he is a Singaporean or not, the usual checks apply. 3 months pay slip or IRAS tax filing, guarantor, proof of address, etc. As long as he can produce these i don't see why the loan shouldn't go through.

What parking are you asking about? Any Singapore registered motorcycle will come with the ERP unit. If you are talking about season parking at work (approach your building's admin) to apply. If you are talking about HDB, then apply for season parking via HDB app or website.

Again, work permit holders can apply for HDB season parking so long as they prove they are the tenant, tenancy agreement, etc.
