Dear community,

recently I have experienced a few incidents where my bike has been moved from my lot, which makes me wonder if anyone else experienced the same thing and what are your thoughts?

The first incident I experienced, when I want to retrieve my bike, I noticed my bike is not in the lot and is slanted taking up 2 lots, this is when I know someone moved my bike. I will always double check my parking to make sure that I did not caused any inconveniences to other riders (My bike does not have a main stand so will park a bit closer to the side to compensate for spaces) and I am very sure any bike can just park normally without any trouble. Some times I carry a guitar and I can still park my bike beside another without touching other bike, just need to be careful and be more considerate to others.

The second incident is what I suspect to be a "claimed lot" incident. I make an effort to remember which exact spot I parked in (not difficult when you are parking in a corner lot), but when I went to retrieve my bike, I realized my bike has been moved to another lot. The following is an illustration of the bike lot layout. I remembered clearly I parked in lot 1, but when retrieving my bike, my bike was in lot 10 ?!?! And the handlebar is not even position properly. In lot 1 is a Harley Davidson Road Glide 😒

I noticed the road glide at lot 1 most of the time, but was not aware it's claimed (Some time, other bikes do park there). Honestly, I would respect the Harley owner's choice if he claimed that lot and would not park in it if he is so adamant about parking in the lot. I just felt that the parking lot is a shared space and is first come first serve basis, and is disrespectful to moved other's property for your convenience. The least he could do is leave a note to explain why he moved my bike and would totally understand if the reason is valid. I know the Road Glide is a huge monster compared to my class 2B bike, but I felt that it is not a good enough reason to claim a lot because your bike is huge and not convenient to park at higher floor?

All in all, I am just bothered that people can touch your property without permission for their own convenience. Has anyone ever encountered such incidents before? Thanks for reading :)

Hello! Usually people would only move bikes aside if it's obstructing them from going out but no matter the case, you are right in carparks being shared spaces. Doesn't matter what class the bike is. No one should claim a lot in that manner. However what I feel is fine in "claiming" lots is if you personally own 2 bikes and swap bikes so one is parked while you are using the other one.

Agreed on moving bikes only if it's obstructing them..

Motorcycle lots has always been a shared place, can you move a car if it's your preferred lots? haha.. and honestly.. I also have my "preferred" lots.. but I would never resort to moving their bikes.. I believe a few factors

1) You do not want that to happen to you when you park at another location.

2) Covid, avoid touching on additional surfaces unless really no choice.

Agreed with that.. I do own 2 bikes at one point of time. and that's what I did but again.. when you have 2 bikes = 2 preferred lots.. Eventually you will definitely lose one of the preferred lots.. soooooo.. pointless la.. haha..

and to add on to TS advise, you can't do much other then ranting on social media with photo evidence on time/date stamp, then it might go viral like what happen to another biker who insisted to park at his own designated lots.. (He even decorate the place with clocks and etc)

oh yea.. you can handlebar lock with alarm.. or cover up your bike.. but again.. all these is your preferences as well.. :)

Kindly read thru at least the intro section first before decide to post any comments.... thanks...

I had to move a small bike out of a lot once because I could not stand my bike up from side stand without tipping the adjacent bike over. So i had no choice but to move it out. That bike had locked the steering locked so i could only move it in an arc. luckily i could maneouvre it out. But I moved it back afterwards to its slot. Yes, it's the right thing to do to ensure that you do not obstruct other users (whether bike, car or ... 🤣lorry) when parking.

Looking at your lot layout, lot 1 is even more incovenient to park for a big bike to park ... Nevertheless, i don't think size should be an excuse. Maybe try cover bike.

personally I think antisocial behaviours such as claiming a parking lot should not be condoned. SG has a lot of monkeys; they want to do it but just waiting for someone to start it. Once they see someone starting a trend and getting away with it, they will follow. And after some time, someone will bound to push the limits and perverse things even further.

I just think the lots not enough also.. in my old carpark.. whenever we "claimed" a lot.. everyone will park at their preferred lot.. whahahah.. but there's a lot of lots available also.. so diff ba..

I'm not that particular.. but just that when all my "preferred" lots (5 motorcycle lots) are taken.. it's annoying especially those who doesn't stay at the place.. LOL!

Your case is preference to park in certain lots. I have my preferred lots to park too ... but i don't think we go around and move people's vehicle out just for that.

The thread-starter case sounds different; it sounds like insistence on the particular lot, to the point of moving others' bike out.

definitely... should not move other bikes out just to "suit" yourself.. there's alot of other lots available in other floors.. haha..

For TS , if you really want, cover your bike with alarm and handlebar locked.. make sure it doesn't obstruct others.. settled.. :)

It is actually quite common in SG that if your bike (especially small one) is in someone's way they will move try and move it. But parking lot abuses like this is uncalled for because it is a public area.

Personally if I have to mess with your machine I would at least leave a courtesy note indicating why (eg. cover or things fell off bike), but many people will not have the time / inclination to do so.

If you're parking at HDB location I suggest try to 'scout' for a less congested parking area, that way you can be physically away from the offender messing with others' personal property. In larger carparks there are always less-used bike lots that are a bit further away but much less chance of 'fighting over' so called preferred lots.

When I'm at Jurong West (Boon Lay Hawker Center) a biker told me to lock my scooter in the parking lot as if someone move your bike and park their bike to share lot with you. Both bikes will get a fine, the biker told me he got a ticket as another bike share his lot before. One lot one bike!

indeed... 1 bike 1 lot.. unless it's not a F** plate then the officer can't really fine.. cuz it's a culture in their country to "squeeze" and park.. 😅
