Just posting something as I've saw this couple who attempted to ride to Norway last year but failed as they are unable to clear beyond Laos, that's the issues that I've encountered when I was doing the planning as well, only Tour groups is possible and it's pretty expensive, estimated USD$100-200/person/day in China.

They are riding their BMW GS 1200, as a biker who been to Northern Thailand and back, (as many of you does as well) I'm sure we would like to see how others adventures goes.
