Hiya folks,

Recently arrived in Singapore and had to leave my R6 behind in the UK....after 6 weeks the withdrawal symptoms are just too much so I'm on the look out to buy a 600-1000cc sportsbike.

Interested in all the usual stuff R6, R1, Gixer 6, 750 or thou, or CBR600 or 1000RR or even ZX636R. Will be looking for something 1-4 years old with low Kms, that has not been dropped or had it's neck rung constantly.

What advice can you give me on where to look / buy; please be specific I'm still finding my way around and don't know the place too well yet.

Also, if anyone has got anything for sale that they think would interest me, get in touch 9863 7790.

Thanks,

Si

Welcome to Singapore!

I gotta explain to you about the licensing scheme here in Singapore. I'll get straight to the point about our multi-tiered licensing scheme (just like Japan):

Most of our big bikers here have gone through mandatory waiting periods of at least 2 years just to get their Class 2 license. This license class lets you ride a bike with engine capacities of 401cc and above.

This, sorry to say, also applies to people who step into Singapore from elsewhere too...you'd have to start out getting your license converted...to be allowed a Class 2B license = 200cc and below. And that's also one waiting year to be able to upgrade to the next tier:

Licensing Scheme in Singapore (Motorcycles)

  • Class 2B License = Awarded to L-platers that take 2B training, pass the final Traffic Police practical test. Allowed to ride bikes of up to 200cc

  • Class 2A License= One year later after being awarded Class 2B. If you take Class 2A training and pass, awarded this license to be allowed to ride bikes 400cc and below

  • Class 2 License= Same procedure to acquire it: Same 1 year waiting time since the acquisition of Class 2A. Pass this training, and you'd pretty much be able to buy any capacity bikes that you want.

What's your riding experience in the UK by the way? I believe that there are Westerners (that's what we call 'em, hope you don't mind :) ) that got a full Class 2 and are part of this forum too. You should search this forum. Maybe gain some tips on how they acquired their license(s).

Cheers.

You can appeal to the licensing dept of the Traffic Police when you convert your license... reasons to give in your appeal: perhaps your riding experience...

Thanks for the advice and tips; I've spoken with the Traffic Police Dept and my UK class A bike licence and experience will be OK to transfer to a Class 2, providing I don't collect and fines in teh next few weeks before the actual transfer.

Still on the search for a used bike, or maybe even a new one.

Please let me know if you hear of anything, or suggest which are the better bike shops for good deals on new sportsbikes.
