Life not gonna be easy on my bike.

Somemore 3 weeks ago kanna scratched by some vandals.

Owners of CBR is really not easy.

Low morale.

Dunno how much will cost. :(

should be ur starter carbon finish.... last time mine rectifier n coil kena chew by ants... wires all short circuited, coil n rectifier kaput - still can start, but no charging oni. check out ur starter if there is no cranking from the engine. should not be too costly to replace it i guess. :goodluck:

Thank for the advice.

Not starter motor. got crank sound.

Major operation. Rectifier and battery spoilt.

Heard battery cannot charge anymore and rectificer burnt off.

but tat time stil got headlight leh...

He say the voltage isn't enough to electric start.

like tat a bit unconvincing liao.

Now start to wonder whether need to do coolant flush cos never do for decades.

but mechanics told me tat if very long never do, it may spolit the bike when u do any time and ask me to be prepared. i hear all this logic i oso blur.

haiz. again a poor rider.

your mechanic bull shitting you, dont go back to him.

Who is your mechanic?

collant if long time never change, the coolant substance will used up and the cooling effect will drop, some will become acidic. This will corrode your radiator & gasget, but will no do damage to your engine's tough material.

it is bullshit your mech to tell you changing coolant will damage your bike. he doesn;t know anything at all. my advise, go planet or other reputable shop, your current mech cannot solve your problem and i sure he will charge you everytime you go back.

go planet do got warranty, no good no need to pay ah chong any $$, tested and verified by me.

flush coolant cost only $10, do it as often as you can. DIY also can.

not say the mechanic bullshitting..

cos if u long long time no change the coolant, rust developed on the metal areas..

when u change the coolant, the flushing process or the cleaning of the system process will rub the rust away and sometimes the rust hav bit a hole in the system.

in this case, the rust is acting like seal preventing the coolant leaking..

but then is still better to change the coolant..

cos at the end of the day, the bike cannot be cooled effiently..

the rust will go deeper and wider.. scally one day, one small flying stone is suffient to cause a major leak when u riding yr bike..

i dont think so.

the mech can tell you a lot of things without any proof.

rust acting as a seal and prevent leaking, i dont believe it.

gimmi some examples if you have any?

flushing wash away the rust?

the coolant inside our bike keeps circulate when the engine started. There's a coolant pump to pump the coolant, there's no way a normal flushing process (pour coolant from top and drain at the bottom) can achieve the pressure created by the coolant pump.

in this case, the water pressure inside the engine already wash/rub away the rust before you flush your coolant system.

it is ok to not knowing something, but it is not a good thing to pass incorrect info around.

sorry if my words offended you, but as an engineer (you study engineering in NUS also right?), we need to find the root cause & evidence of the problem, not jump to the conclusion straight away.

if everyone has this kind of mindset, then i don't think any bike shop can chop us because we know our bike, they can't bluff us.

yup... always seen rust develop n chew into the engine blocks on smaller CC bikes... at the end whole block have to change, cos 1st place they use cheapo coolant which is acidic, 2nd is they dont change it....

its best to change our coolant once in every 6 mths, n remember to use a better grade coolant, eg; motul....

how do u flush yr coolant??

juz drain the coolant out and replace the coolant??

when i flush my coolant, i insert a running water hose..

sometimes i even add in some vineger, radiator cleaner solution..

:btw: u noe the coolant flow direction??

from where to where??

when u insert the running water hose at the opening where the radiator cap are, the water flow is in different direction..

the lays of mild scaling and rusting is form by the direction of the flow created by coolant pump..

th reverse direction of water flow by hose, will rub off the rust..

u take pot with leftover food to wash.

u add in some water and stir the water.. after some time, there is still dirty leftover.. but u try opposite direction, even more dirt will come off.. u see how yr washing machine works..

eh seriously it does damage... seen it with my own eyes before, the water circulation holes in the engine block become so thin due to corrosion, until it leaks into the compression chamber. in the end whole block kena change....

but so far seen it happen on kawasakis only (lotsa ZXR250, n a few old school ZXR750) never seen it happen on honda though, but its not wise to take this kinda risks.... :bouncefire:

Wow.... Today discussion is really informative..

All riders sharing their precious experience on coolant knowledge....

I m truly impressed.

Sev's words make sense as there r some mechanic saying the same and some friends of mine did coolant flush 3yrs once oso no pro.

What Aalex82 said is wat the mechanic related to me and grasscutter had seen this kind of case..

So if took everything into consideration, there is chances in success or failure.

So should i go ahead with coolant flush and wait for any problem?

or should i jus continue riding with an ease mind tat coolant flush is not necessary?

Alternative ways are welcome. :)
