It for both diesel and gasoline engine.Look for the API Service Decal on the oil bottle, like CH4 / SM. C stand for Compression Ignited which is a diesel engine and S stand for Spark Ignited engine. Mobile Delvac can be used for both type of engine.

do you all think the savings using car oil vs 4t oil is significant?

Yes!

Motorcycle oil IMO cost more. I can find cheaper car oil option and in greater quantity then motorcycle oil.

Use to have very good oil like Repsol going for a song in carrefour but demand so low and later no more.

Total brand too, all cheap and more than reasonable.

I feel the shops that sell motorcycle oil are cashing in on us motorcyclist as there is no supermarket that bring in motorcycle oil otherwise it will give motorcycle shop selling oil a run of their money.

Use to sell in carrefour (suntec) for $8-$12 if i remember correctly. So i grab one to try try. Turn out to be very good but went back no more liao.

Saw selling in a bike shop but so ex.

I was riding a 2T scoot then.

Selling this also then. It's so cheap until i don't dare to try ha ha.

Coming back to Car oil. yes i always use car oil but not anymore because motorcycle oil are built for high rpm unlike cars. I'm talking about cruising rpm.

Eg. car cruise at 80Km/h is about 1500rpm-2000rpm

scooter at 80km/h about 4000rpm-5500rpm. Depending on model of scooters.

I use to use Carrefour Mobil 1 for cars 0W40($~12), 5W50(~$12) Amsoil ?W40 Euro Spec(~$16)

Redline 5W50 ($17.50) all without any problems but i do change them out faster due to high rpm.

Try buying an Established brand fully synthectic motorcycle oil at these prices. Hardly ever. Usually will cost from$18 t0 $32 depending on how good the oil is.

There will be motorcycle oil that are fully syn and cost less but do you dare to use them?

Not that there is anything wrong, end of the day they are still synthetics as compare to mineral. The thing is do you know how will it perform on your scoot? or just go for those common one that everybody says good?

Agip motorcycle oil is one of the oil that I know that I won't try because of the low SG oil ratings but a lot of user are recommending the oil cause it's so smooth and silent and they can feel the oil must be really good from the feedback of the scoot. So yes, now I will definitely try Agip next time but the agent no more liao the last i heard.

Most oil will shows signs of wear at ~2000km from my scoot experience. The scoot engine will start to be rougher than the usual. I find good oil (300V) IMO tends to be very rough in the beginning of use then become super duper smooth until the oil quality drops.

Price wise u can just compare the pricing of car and motorcycle oil in US and singapore. Its clear hw much more its jacked up over here.

In scooter, yes ur rpms are higher, so thats why ur OCI will be shorter, especially with a smaller oil capacity. Maybe saving $5-10 per oil change may not mean much, but in the long run it can add up. Scooters engine are just miniature of car engine, so it is not that hard on the oils compared to bikes with transmission. So why spend more on those ex 4T wen ur engine will not fully utilise its properties.

A ride a day, keeps the doctor away!

I find using x-30 oil is usually slicker than the x-40. Feels more responsive. I had an old scooter that will drop the oil level without oily exhaust or oil smoke when I use 0w- 40 mobil 1 gold. I guess blow from the head. But when I use 5w-30, 10-40 15 -40 car oil no problems. If an oil makes the engine smooth and quiet maybe it is because it is thick too. I have never bought a 4t oil.

Always car oil in their larger containers. More value. But I change at 800 - 1000.

What about gear oil? anyone use engine oil instead?
