Hi Guys, I just got my 2B license and got my hands on a new Aprilia Scarabeo 200ie. Its my first bike and I fell in love with its classic good looks and large diameter wheels. I contemplated the PCX150, Sym HD200i, Kymco Downtown, finally decided on this. I havent seen a single one on the road before, which makes it unique but I'm starting to worry about parts availability in future. Any one riding this classic scoot ?

So far my mileage is just 300km , but enough to give a quick review.

+ Powerful engine, 19hp, more than Sym HD200i, PCX150

+ Riding position is comfortable, but front windscreen doesnt eliminate buffeting.

+ Brakes seem strong, large diameter front brakes with pretty Aprilia calipers

+ My first tank of petrol 32km/litre (probably average in bike world).

+ Classic good looks, several people think it is a modern vespa, already had 2 strangers ask me what bike is this.

+ Handling is nimble, gives me confidence

+ Standard Michelin Citygrip tyres are excellent

+ Switchable ECU mapping between ECO mode and Sports Mode, eco mode saves some petrol according to the manual.

- Range is only 250km on 8litre tank (220km already into reserve)

- Suspension not as plush as I expected, rear swing arm feels flexy.

- Limited storage compared to maxi scooters. Underseat storage only for 1 scooter helmet with visor.

- Underseat storage damn hot, I scared visor melt. Rider dont feel it.

- Good quality rear rack as standard

- stock windscreen offers limited wind protection

- Seat height slightly high if you sit near the back of the saddle. But okay if in front.

I'm still running in so not able to take it beyond 90kph yet. So far loving it.... ! :p

A classic that looks at home in the CBD or at Dempsey !

here is my white scarabeo

hey Verna, the Scarabeo is very much similar to the Gilera ST200 and also the Vespa GT200 but except that it is running by fuel injection. There's no doubt that this scooter gives a good mileage and they also have various upgrade options to increase the torque and pick up speed! Congrats on your new ride though.. enjoy!

Hi Mark,

After hearing your input given to Verna, I am more relief. Went Mah motor yesterday and view the bike, thought of getting one, but worry about spare part due not much on the road. May you advise. Think if I confirm getting the bike, you're the man to keep my bike in good shape, will visit you one of this day.

I had also went to view new PGO Tigra 150, any comment? Now I am putting ST200 in the first place, 2nd Scarabeo and third PGO Tigra 150.

Nice scoot. Don't worry about spare parts, it is aprilia/piaggio group. Mah can order anything you want.

Verna> at 34km/l it is very good for 200cc scoot! I have a 250 vespa and returning 26-28km/l

Congrats on your bike. Yeah it is one very nice stylish Classic bike indeed...

Hi Guys, I'm at 1500km now and loving it. I'm still averaging 30km/l to 32km/l and I pillion quite often.

It cruises easily at 100kph (maybe 1/4 to half throttle) and I've seen 120kph on 3/4 throttle, I'm not yet fully run in, so I havent seen full throttle action. I've heard it will see 140kph, but why bother with such sort of speed.

There are some premium features on this bike, but frankly quite useless in my view like the ambient temperature reading and the "sports/eco" mode switch, just good to play with waiting at the lights.

I love the brakes, most of the time I'm using only the left lever (rear brakes) as it automatically transmits some braking to the front brakes as well so the rear has not locked even under fairly heavy braking.

You sit very upright on this bike, if you want to ride abit more aggressively, you can use the passenger's foot peg, cornering becomes much easier. Pillion rider space is adequate, but not spacious like the maxi scooters. For girlfriend, just nice. The seat also not so wide (but still much wider than normal bikes), so she can still ride it wearing a skirt. But pillioning a big guy is a bit tight if you have a top box mounted too close.

Storage cannot be compared to maxi-scooter. Underseat only can fit demi-jet helmet, so you will need a top box. Front glove compartment only can put the aprilia toolbox, cash card and some coupons.

For larger items like briefcase or shopping bags, I usually put in on the flat floor board, there is a hook infront of the seat.

It suits larger riders in general, I'm 1.77m and I cant put two feet firmly down if I sit all the way back, but moving to the front of the saddle helps alot. Its a little more spacious than the Vespa GT series.

The best thing is no one really knows this bike, I get curious stares all the time.

Power is fantastic, especially after the clutch catches fully (20kph to 80kph range).

There is a 2yr warranty on this bike, so I guess dont need to worry so much. Servicing is done at Motorsports, which has some sort of alliance with Mah Motors.

Sorry, its Sporting Motor at Kaki Bukit. Servicing there was quick, no need reservations.

They are willing to help solve problems, I complain that the rear brakes spongy, they rebleed for free since bike has 2 yr warranty.

Yes, digital Meter shows voltage as well, I dont really use it, how to see ?

By the way last tank of petrol 35km/litre ! nice.

I just added a Givi Trekker 52litre box, quite chio.

not too sure of this current model but older model, you can get the side boxes specially for scarabeo if the under seat compartment is small
