There are a few common probs. U might wanna just shoot. I'm sure some of us can help.

ok here goes...

1)Engine idling speed

When i start the bike to warm it up.. after the auto choke is "off", at this point of time it would usually be 1 bar(thermometer). but during the interval of 1st and 2nd bar.. while the bike is idling.. it seems to be very unstable... it sounds like the engine is abt to cut(but never happens till now). The idling will be OK if u leave it further or start to ride - so is this a problem?

2) Ticking sound(at idling)

I hear a ticking sound when i start the engine.. tried to identify where the sound is coming from but to no avail.. if i stand on left or right side of the bike or go as close as possible to the fuel tank.. still clueless where it came from...- so what is this sound abt? dun think its the tensioner chain right? since the tensioner is on the right side of the bike it would be more obvious...

3) Shuddring(not smooth motion) of windscreen down.

Extending the windshield arm up all the way - no issue.

When bring it down.. for the 1st 3 inches or less the motion is not smooth and will shudder for a bit(audiable and visble) and continiue its way down smoothly - whats the problem?

4) Battery replacement.

What is the largest ampere i can get for our ride say brands from Yuasa or others?

Thanks in advance..

This might be due to ur idling knob..maybe u can click it up a little more. the normal idling speed after warming up ur bike(2 bar) shd be at 900-1000rpm.

The knob is located (when looking at ur bike) is at the left fairing. Its a bit difficult to reach ur fingers inside but if u manage to put ur fingers in, turn it CLOCKWISE bro..

I guess this is pretty normal for our bikes at 1 point of time.. if the tensioner chain problem the ticking is SUPER LOUD u know it is a PROBLEM. But normal slow ticking sound is normal for me..

U can ask bro omnilash abt this.. he knows all abt the technical stuff.

Bro omi, enlighten us please

If yours is a Gen I bike, the ticking sound is coming from the valve stem and valve guide. Its a common problem to Gen I FJR and seems to affect some Gen II as well. There is abnormal wear between the 2 so unless ur rich enough to replace the items, u'll have to live with it. To a certain extent, I do believe its causing compression losses and thus loss of power.

3) Shuddring(not smooth motion) of windscreen down.

Again, the Gen I/II FJR uses a ball screw system to move the windshield. The ball screw needs to be lubricated. But u'll need to remove your front cowling to gain decent access, its one hell of a job.

If yours is a Gen III FJR, it uses a cable and pulley system. I read from fjrowners.com about lubricating some pivoting points, u might wanna check that out if urs is a Gen III onwards.

bro, correct me if im wrong. i once read somewhere that if the ticking sounds comes from the right side of the bike, then it's most probably the tensioner chain that needs to be replaced. recently, i've been hearing that sound from the right side of my bike. it's even more obvious if i start the bike from a basement carpark (due to the echo of the bike). starting to worry me. heard might need to overhaul if the chain snaps?

Yes, I heard you will have to over-haul the engine if the chain snaps inside and damage the interior.

So you may wish to consider to spend a little bit of money to change your tensioner and/or timing chain, rather than you got to spend an "atomic bomb" to repair your engine. You can ask one of our bro here whose timing chain snap before.

Some recommend that the tensioner and timing chain be change together at the same time, so that it is easier to monitor the period of time since bothwere change at the same time.

But some prefer to "tighten" the timing chain until it can no longer be tighten, then change the timing chain, without changing the tensioner if it is working fine.

But think it is okay to replace the timing chain without changing the tensioner.

The above are based on what I know and my previous experience with FJR.

The experienced seniors here, pls do not flame me if I am wrong.

Pls kindly correct me and share info, so that I can learn too. :)

Thank you. :)

Thank You Kazky, Ominislah and all other bros here for the info.

So i guess 1.2mha(battery) is the largest we can find for FJRs.

Not gona remove the head crowling myself... ill get a intended personal for the job instead...

Tensioner chain should be ok... now i remember from my previous bike how it sounds....(its still less then 17K KM milage anyway...)

The idling is correct after warm up(2 bars) just that the "issue" i have happens between 1st and 2nd bar....

Now still waiting for the parts to arrive.....then all do 1 shot including preventive maintainence....save labour cost.

Initially had the intetion to replace my brake hose... but after being reminded that the ride has ABS....i decided not to proceed(unless ABS is sacrificed) what you guys think?

Regarding this matter, i myself need some help from u guys here.. Is it ok to change our brake lines esp with ABS??

As far as i know ABS is only a system brake unit and the brake lines are 2 different things.. heard the metal brake lines have more responsive braking effect. Correct me if im wrong ok guys..

For non-ABS bikes its no problem changing the brake lines at all in fact its way better for safety purpose.

oh what i meant was replacing the stock hose on our rides(w/ABS) is more expensive then rides that are non-ABS, reason is because of the hose routing and qty used. Usually(for nonABS) is at most 3 lines for brakes(Front L & R + Rear) for ABS bikes there are more lines then 3... so cost involve is astronomical when compared....im torn between ABS and "non-spongy feeling" of braking(if u know what i mean)...
