RVF SUSPENSION QUESTIONS

-------------------------------------!!!!!

1) Benson! u said the mech did some lube on yr rear suspension to stop the creaking sound? did he just slab some grease on to the spring or did he dismount yr whole rear shock and do it? did the regreaseing solve yr creakin sound? coz mine is creaking like hell!!

2) when i sat on to my bike.... sometimes....after i fully rested my weight on the bike seat liao....when i lean fwd to move off...i get the feeling the front fork sink down futher more....wtf? sometihng wrong with my settings?

3) is RVF's rear shock adjustable?? some say can, some say cannot? coz i find when i sat on my bike,,the rear sags in alot and overall feel is abit soft. how? how?

Hi Ken,

I long time never reply already. Seems like you have taken over the "Most knowledgeable RVF rider" from DLM liao... No offense hor, I'm not here to "flame" you... Just contributing my experience... Hahahahahahahahaha...

HKL's rubber should be okie. I been using their rubber since I first rode a Hexagon. Heard stories about their rubber, e.g. expired, fake etc... But do go to the shop, change the tyres, feel and see it for yourself. Be fair to everybody. Hehehehehehehehehehehe...

One thing for sure, HKL mechanics are damn lousy. No matter which mechanic serves you. They are lousy. I only change my rubber there, only allow Ah San to change rubber for me. Nobody else. I also don't do my usual servicing there. I do it myself. Don't flame me if you love HKL mechanics. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha... Just stating my point of view.

On the other hand, that Ah Bee also got foul mouth too. Hahahahahahaha... Always say "Don't believe me, don't trust me... Go survey market outside..." Shit lar... If I don't believe him or trust him, how would I dare to go his shop and change my rubber?

Lastly, I'm using Total 4T Semi Synthetic Engine Oil for my CBR900RR now. S$4.20 per litre. Damn cheap. Feel also the same as Castrol R4. If cheaper means I can change at every 2,500 instead of 5,000 also equal to better? Better for my pocket that is. Hahahahahaha...

I second that. I had received emails of these pictures since I rode Hexagon. Saw them again on Performance Bike. If I remember correctly, the editor of Performance Bike says that they are taken from an European country. =)

Answer to point 2.

When you are leaning forward, you are shifting your weight towards the front end of the bike. The centre of gravity will also shift forward. Hence, the front fork should sink down further more. If you are able to see your rear shock, it should "expand" more too.

Answer to point 3.

If I remember correctly, RVF rear shock is partially adjustable. This mean you can only adjust the preload but not the rebound damping nor the compression damping. DLM or Ken, please verify this. As I don't have a RVF to check and see if I am correct. Replying based on what I remember.

Garfield so long never post, now post one shot so many... Dont rem seeing you mention abt ur new bike..hehe...maybe i missed that part...

Ken : How about we set a day/time for our outing? Next week? Following week? Where would be a good place to meet? Somewhere cheap would be good. :D I'll be changing a new piston on my SP, so ask your friend to come view it....will not be as loud now.

revolution : Now you can continue to speed without fear loh ;)

Got a question to ask.... If handle bars were hit off alignment, do we do wheel alignment to fix the straightening of the handle bars?

Point2;

no leh..the feeling is different when i lean fwd. sometimes without leaning fwd..when i just sit on my bike fully weighted on my seat liao....sometimes move alittle bit can feel the front forks sink downlike 2 inches, iz weird!

point 3; preload damping meaning can i control the hardness or softness of the rear suspension?

cheh san.

the mech at Sanfu took out my rear shock n took out the 3 main screws n the joint n grease them all. then put back. as for the rear shock, I also felt its abit shock n the rebound is too fast. left my bike at Sanfu for the 1seater thing, they will do the rear shock adjustment for me too. but will update u the outcome aft I get back my bike. ard next fri like that. :cheer:

I LOVE my R1!!!:shades:

jungleboy thanx for the webby..quite informative but if only have pictures to illustrate the points :sian:

just one more thing to ask u all, when moving off in 1st gear slowly...does yr RVF front part (handlebars /triple clamps) chatter?

chatter meaning vibrate like as if you are moving in slow speed with 5th or 6th gear....like kok kok kok kok.....but if i move off from 1st gear faster, dun have this problem.

is this normal for RVF because of its tall 1st gear?

coz i noticed when i ride Vtec S4 that time...i can navigate around my carpark comfortably in 2nd gear but not the RVF! always need to use 1st gear only and if movin too slow on 1st gear, front part will chatter.

i wonder is this due to suspension setting probs too? coz jungleboy's website oso dun record this symtom.

sighhh........any Gao ren can help me??

i not knowledgable. is all heard from dlm 1. :D

i oso cannot verified the suspension thing cos my suspension is not original suspension, previous owner change it to a non adjustable suspension which is oso abit higher than normal rvf.

about the chatter sound is when u move off in slow low rpm then will come out liao tio boh? i oso have this problem, dun think it is due to suspension problems, but i think it is something more mechanical stuff, like valves related... sad to say this is highly probably cos i had done up quite a lot on my bike but haven touch the valves yet, that leads to my conclusion, but is no proof afterall. but since not much of a problem, then next time cheh san u rev higher a bit lor. or clutch control hoh abit.

outing? hmm, thursday i jio no ppl, today dlm jio me i not free, think we set it at friday nite at bukit timah Al-Ameen.

about the changing of tyres thing, i think the wheel balancing thingy process is when the wheel is being turn round and round, the speed must be quite fast, but i remember that hkl there is very slow leh, so their wheel balancing got use meh? as for san fu, didnt go there b4, and for those who got go b4 if saw their wheel is turning at a faster rate then maybe go there lor. hahaha. tyres prices all not much difference lah.

like what the tiger said, their mechs... u see for urself lah :D
