ok RVF-fians.... herez some question pertaining to Engine. just wondering if any of u expereincing the same thing as mua.

 

1) comparing my RVF's engine sound at idle with DLM's bike and another fren of mine...i find my engine idling sound is abit...how should i say--Noiser, rougher and a tad higher pitched sound. thier bikes all sound very low pitch, quiet and mellow.

what could be the cause? could it be my valves need clearance checking?

or my pistons goin thru wear n tear?

im really afraid it might blow on me whenever i go 120km/h n above....

 

2) i noticed alot of buidlup of black dirt/oil underneath my fairing..near the front sprocket/ and sidestand hinge.......cant see exacly till i'm free to remove the lower fairings for thorough inspection. I'm wondering if its ~GuLP~ my engine leaking Engine Oil??? or isit just 'fly-offs' from chain lubes and my mech's recent greasing? if RVF leak engine oil, would it really be prominent enuff to see?

 

3) Whenever after riding for some time, when come to a standstill, i hear like " tick-----tick-----tick-----' sound coming from somewhere in the engine compartment....i get this sound after i switch off engine and park my bike as well.....iz like CArs..whenver u park liao, u'll hear tick---tick---tick sound, the sound of engine oil dripping back into the oil pan.....is RVF like cars too?

 

lastly...i know i know..i'm PARANOID!! but i just wana know any of u experiencin the same probs.

My Answer: wait till u compare yours with mine, then u noe whos noiser. No problem as long as when u ride at 6k rpm and the sound of ur engine is very minimal, then everything is okie. The rest, dun care about that.

My Answer: Check ur engine oil level every now and then loh, till the day u decided to change ur engine oil liao still cant tell any different on the level then everything is still working well bah.

cheh san... the noisy engine u referin is it like something loose n shake about by the bike's vibration? then u hav the same prob as me. but just less then 150 to get it fix. depwndin on how "severe" ur prob is.

Its the bar shim. small piece of metal on top of ur cam. If i rem correctly, there shld be 16 of them. dependin on how many needs replacement. 1 is $8 or $12. can't rem liao. If u dun fix it, in the long run, it'll damage ur cam. but not repairin it doenst make ur cam last 4ever cos the cam oso wear n tear, but hav a long life spend. something like the rotor of the brake sys.

so where did u get your valve/shiming adjustment service done?? my mechs dun do this major stuff.

can recommend yours to me? how is his skill?

 

lastly...how is yr bike now after the shim/valve adjustment? isit quieter? smoother?

 

i guess i rather spend $150 or so now i fit works then wait till it eats my cam!

i got it done at Sanfu by ah San. not too sure abt his skill yet. Cos bike still in there. will feedback to u..

 

yes....pls feedback me on thier workmanship quality.... i have been hearing mixed reviews abt this Sanfu though, more bad than good.....quite aprehensive abt doin engibe work there.

 

anybody got any more recommendations for shimming work?

but the problem is, i really dunno how to figure out whether the engine is in good condition?

izzit the FP plate one ?? he quote me 9k for tat..

i did walk pass Xtreme, saw a FS plate there. but i didnt ask him the price, coz i figure out no pt asking coz i dunno any how to chose.
