are we doing anything this weekend?

Singapore Adventurers' Club

Ramble in the Woods 21 Jan

You are not going to spend a better Sunday morning than this? Join us for a local walk into some less ventured parts of Jln Kayu & Seletar Reservoir forested area before this last bit of wilderness disappears too.

What’s there to see and do? How about ….

~Peek at the Baya Weaver weaving their nests

~Learn to murder someone using Castor oil seed,

~Impress your loved ones with a necklace of Job’s Tears

~Find out why they named the tree after Jack

~Feast on the fruit of the Petai taste-alike tree

~Smell the intoxicating betel nut leaves

If that has perked your interest, then keep a date with us this Sunday morning, rain or shine.

When? Sunday 21 Jan 2007

Time to meet? 8.15 am. We decided to be kind enough to give a buffer of 15mins. Those who arrive after 8.30 am will see no one.

Where to meet? Where else but the famous Jln Kayu Prata Stall. We’ll gather at the bus stop opposite the shop between 8.15~ 8.30am.

Estimated Trekking End Tim e: 1200h

Grading :*

End Point: Not the same as starting point. We’ll end up near to Yio Chu Kang MRT station if that helps.

Attire: Comfortable walking clothes with comfortable walking footwear.

Others: Bring along rain gear (EXTREMELY IMPORTANT) and drinking water. Eat your breakfast before the trek. Some snacks along the way if you wish.

Organiser: Kid

How to spot the leader? Look out for group of trekker s led by an enigmatic charmer

If we cannot wake up so early... how abt this?

Singapore Adventurers' Club

MacRitchie & Pierce Boardwalk Trail

(LOCAL TREK)

From our start point, we'll walk past the picnic area, fishing grounds and canoeing huts and proceed to the boardwalk & jungle trails. Our paths may cross with the usual suspects, oops, 'Casablanca', ahem, I mean the usual inhabitants of the forest and reservoirs, ie. monkeys, squirrels, eagles, kingfishers etc.

We will visit the Treetop Walk & head to the panoramic bund walk between the expansive Upper and Lower Peirce Reservoirs skirting the pruned Golf Course and amenity-facilitated Reservoir Park.

Another good recreational activity for you to burn your calories and maintain health, posture and equilibrium especially for those with deskbound and urban-site confined jobs.

If we are lucky, we may catch sight of an adult eagles in flight with its majestic wing span of 2 m when in flight, and if we are luckier still, the exciting visual of it snatching plate-sized fish prey right from the reservoir's water surface.

Since we will be ending at the Upper Thomson Road eateries, it's a transport cost-saving bonus for the 'die die must try again' quest to savor the economical, delectable, 'the' most crispy roti-pratas in Singapore with saucy sayur, masala squid and meat rendang, besides other tasty curries (eg.s fishhead, mutton, chicken, etc).

Date: 21 Jan 07 Sunday

Time : 2 pm. (estimated to end by 6 pm)

Cost: FREE

Number of participants: UNLIMITED

Venue: Mac Ritchie Reservoir Main Entrance Bus Stop B21 along Lornie Road.

Bus transport:

74, 93, 130, 156, 157, 162, 165, 166, 167, 605, 852, 855,

980.

Car/ Motor-bike parking:

Free parking at MacR carpark (Keke, ya, no relation to MacD burger at Macdonald's).

Program:

2.00 pm - 2.15 pm: Stretching & breathing exercise.

2.15 pm - 6.00 pm: Trekking & sightseeing. (ending at Upper Thompson Road)

ADVICE:

(a) Drink at least a big glass of water in the afternoon before joining this trek.

(b) Wear comfortable trekking shoes.

© Bring water (minimum 1 liter), poncho/raincoat (IMPORTANT), insect

repellent (OPTIONAL), binoculars (OPTIONAL) and Snacks (OPTIONAL)
