Ha..ha... good question. I am not very sure, but Des did help me adjust the stiffness once. So my guess is it's adjustable la...ha..ha.. The shock is preloaded for sure.

My ride now is not very smooth la. There is a loud knocking sound from the transmission department. And when i stop at the traffic lights, i can hear as if the bike is going to die on me anytime. That is bad right? Can any one help?

Joe>> Sounds like the idling is too low. When its too low, ity'll knock. And the bike will seem to die on you (or occasionally--will).

If that's not the reason, then its a worn variator I guess.. More likely the former.

Cheers

Yea, hopefully it is just the idling, it should be about 1700RPM. But aftermarket variators tend to wear out, and so it might be that too but I doubt it since your stuff is still quite new...

Bro the piaggio leader engine calls for no grease on the variators.

Done that 3 years ago on my first bike, vxr200. End up belt and clutch slip.

Then MR Yap at piaggio specifically says. No grease at the rollers or variators.

Must be bone dry.

mine had the same problem too. always those sound. and i don't seem to know what was the problem. and on some occasion, more recently, my bike won't get to start by just pressing the electrical switch alone. either i'd press the switch longer to get it start or i'd accelerate together while pressing. is any of these methods unhealthy? well if it is, any solution to rectify the problem?\

secondly, is there any manual starting approaches to start the bike ifit fails to start altogether. e.g. other manual bikes can approach the push start or better known as the racing start method by just clutching in on 2nd gear and release the clutch while in motion to get it started or again they could pull the choke together with it? is there any similar methods for dearest Gilera DNA 180?

thirdly, a minor problem on my case perhaps, when i pull on the rear brake, the brake light doesn't appear. it only works on my front brake though. i've been told its the switch or wiring problem. can i noe how i can manually fix this?

lastly, hehehe, i've been wanting to fix a neon light to the bike. yes yes, it is illegal and it is known to be fine oer $100 for one neon but still i wanna. the problem is, i do not know where the battery lies in the bike. so i can fix it straight.cos i got a friend who can do this stuff, but unsure about Gilera bikes.

lastly, part 2, i wanna noe about all the parts in the bike. so i can more fully understand that.

anyways, thanks guys for reading. will be counting on you. i'm a one-monther owner of DNA. thats explains the noobieness and curiosity.

Hey guys,

Abit about the variator, it is correct that you cannot put grease on the variator, but grease can be placed on the bushing. And one thing, do not take out the variator while the bike is still hot, I learnt the hard why, burnt all my fingers taking out my variator.

Actually the transmission is a very simple mechanism once u get the hang of it.

No, there is no way to push start the DNA, it is actually started by the little gear, connected to a starter motor connected to a gear on the crank shaft. The little gear disengages once the engine starts, but if you can turn that gear, it can technically start the engine, but sadly the centrifugal clutch is a big NO NO, cause it will not engage, sort of a one way cycle.

Cheers

P.S. MYM203, you can try sourcing for inverted forks. Desmond said he can do it, but be prepared to fork out big bucks!!!

I found out the solution when I kept having to do this.... change the battery.

Unfortunately no. You can only jump start, using battery cables and connecting it to another bike or car. Our bikes are auto...so no push start.

It is am electrical problem. Just need to check the contact points.

You rode for some time and you still don't know where the battery is? It is under the seat, bro

Hmmm, the '06 runner uses exactly the same back lights as the DNA, but instead of 4 red lights, the last 2 lights become indicators, but ah boy sells the LED bulbs at $8 a piece...

Hey special, where did you fix your Dr pully? i was thinking of fixing it too, but not sure if it will be suitable for pur Dna. Is it really that good? can you feel an increase in pick-up? what weight are you using. can give a bit more report on it . Thank you

Vololo, you have no class 2B license yet?

Anyway, I heard the dr pulley rollers do wonders! They can be purchased at Tai Hin, too bad I don't ride the DNA anymore...

hey specialc if i do layout must i pay anything extra when i get my licence. Other then insurance. How bout the road tax?

You just need to pay $30 excl GST for the re-registration and also 6 mths road tax which is like $40. Plus the towing to and fro to inspection centre. Thats all.

Layup you don't need to pay insurance AND road tax as the bike cannot be on the public road but at the car park where you are parking.

Of course it is suitable for DNA. I have already fixed it. The initial acceleration is wonderful plus the fact I did not lose my top speed..in fact I gained it back...

The weight is 10.5g. Overall, I am damn happy with the rollers. Today one jackass in an Integra IS pulled off me at the lights, I give him one time, good and proper! :lovestruck: Touched 130kmh. Thats how I concluded that the top speed is back. The bike just keeps pulling and pulling.

On Byron's DNA, the yellow one with HID, his is bone stock with the Dr Pulley rollers, I tested his bike before I made the decision to purchase. Damn quick off the lights. Nice!!! :lovestruck:

Well, rollers are rollers....if you have an aftermkt torque driver, then it is not recommended you fix, cause there will be rubbing on the belt. But so far, based on my research, they should not be any other side effects.
