Hello guys,

I recently passed my 2B after failing twice, haha

And just like most of the people, i am very eager to get my own bike.

Phoned up some bike shops and realized that if I were to pay in installments, a guarantor is needed.

I am 27 years old, downpaying $1000-$1500 and rest of the balance amount would be loan.

Just wondering, does the guarantor need to be working ? because my closer friends are still schooling and have no income as of yet.

Makes me worried that i can never get a bike unless i pay in full =\

Your guarantor needs to be pay off the bike loan if you default (i.e. unable to pay). Thus, the bike shop will want somebody with a stable and high enough income.

Don't buy something too expensive for a first bike. You are bound to drop it and/or put scratches on it.

I am a strong supporter of buying bike with full cash. If it is strictly for transport (e.g. delivery rider or getting to school / work), you should buy the cheapest one that can get the job done. 4 stroke cubs are aplenty and are both fuel efficient and low maintenance. If it is for leisure, all the more you should only buy what you can afford. It makes no sense at all to take a loan on a leisure bike. Would you take a loan to go on a holiday or to buy a computer for gaming? Probably not.

The shop that I bought my bike from did not ask for any supporting documents on income from my guarantor.

Used Pulsar even better. Paves the way for 2A.
