the last time i check my kawa 400cc bike (FN plate)... the external engine is covered with oil near the exhaust header & my engine oil kept evaporating.

i've seen an article on the Sunday New Paper by BikerBoy saying that internal parts like piston, piston arm, con rod etc, etc... showing the signs of wear & tear... & its time for an engine overhaul.

is this the only possible cause?

has anyone experience this?

whats the cost range to overhaul a 400cc bike?

thanks.:(

if gasket is the problem does the leak shows at one particular point only?

the whole front of the engine block is oily & cover with dust. from left all the way to the right near the 4 exhaust header.

has anyone experience it before?

i dont want to go to motoshop & have to overhaul everything when the problem is just as simple as a worn gasket.

change gasket first cost money, if the leak still persist then have to overhaul which cost money again. haiyah!!!

how i wish i struck 1st prize toto right now!!!

For your case maybe its a worn out gasket, but since your bike is FN plate and high mileage, why not do top overhaul?..

Anway if the cylinder head is warped,it can be belt sand to make it flat again, but nowdays i see mechanic are not mechanics they are like fitters, want to cut cost and time,so charge you for a new cylinder head..

That sounds indeed like a cam cover gasket leak. Just don't go to those black listed chop shops. All shops should give you a free assessment of the problem and estimate of the parts and labour. You can shop around, stick to those that specialise in repair work.

There is no indication of your engine requiring 'overhaul' unless your bike has already exploded the engine, currently suffering terrible mileage, spewing white/blue smoke, have milky colour engine oil or spewing cooling all over the engine block.

Worrying to the extent of inaction is not going to make the problem go away. Get it looked at and u may even avoid even costlier repairs later.
