hi all, i'm currently taking a 2b license now. And am thinking choosing a bike now so i can prepare a budget and at least get a rough gauge on how much i'll be spending. Btw, i'm really a green thumb in the biking world and i know really little so please do pardon me if i ask stupid questions. But it would be greatly appreciated if you guys can share some knowledge with me. i will be so grateful.

1) Pros & Cons of 2strokes vs 4 strokes.

I do know that 2 strokes are more powerful and therefore eat more petrol compared to 4 strokes.

2)For 4 strokes, what's the best buy and how much do i have to lay down before i can ride it out?

My range would be (Yamaha R125, Duke 200, RC 200, Rs4 125, KTM 200 exc and Pulsar 200Ns) However i'm bending over towards the KTM's. Oh and how much would i have to spend per month?

3)Can the bikes listed above go head to head with an Rs125?

4)Whats the diff between Duke 200 and duke 125? can the 200 go faster?

Right now i prefer 200cc bikes just for the cause that they are the biggest for 2b. Are they a good way to go?

My estimated usual routes would be

bouna vista to maju camp

some small touring around Singapore distances that wouldnt really hurt if im on a sportbike

The occasional touring to Malaysia.

Thanks so much in advance!

haha i'll be keeping for a quite a bit as i wanna take 2a then 2 then upgrade. how much wld a RC200 cost? 2nd hand

RC200 less than one month in Singapore, won't have 2nd hand. $11k OTR.

Downpayment 4k. Remaining 7k on 5% 5 year -> per month repayment $150.

Fuel $60-$100 assuming 25km/L and around 1k-1.5km per month distance

Parking and ERP -$30

Servicing- $50 every 2 month maybe. Call it $25 per month.

Possible to spend just a bit more than $300/month, as long as you got income it's okay. If you're student and young, insurance will be very high.

Many posts about 2 stroke vs 4 stroke here on SBF. Go and search. None of the 4 strokes you mentioned can match RS125 top speed (160km/h). Most of the reviews of RC390 (same as RC200 in chasis) say it's fun on track but uncomfortable for anything more than short commute. I researched RC390 a lot cos I like the look and interested in beginner sport bike but decided not to buy :D Keep my kupkia for now! Save $

oh 11k OTR is reasonable. is it possible to have smaller downpayment? cause 300 is ok. but given the fact that i wanna down less i am willing to pay more /month. anyway, i find the KTM should be ok as im after all a beginner. thank you for your help so far!

OTR should be 16k++

the 390 differ the rc200 by 1.5k

My thumb of rule is not to pay more than 3k for the first bike, so go get a 2nd-hand one.

You will sell away your first bike eventually and lost thousands of dollars.

The first bike is not for you to get a swee swee bike (if you can get one is a plus), it's for you to learn the outside traffic condition, drop and damage bike, learn how to diy repairs, get into accidents, etc. In another words, its for you to trash around.

Save the money up for at least a 2A bike.
