Also from drivers who converted to becoming riders due to costs.

To be frank, I belong to this category of ppl but I did not contributed to the high COE. (ie: have not book a new bike yet)

I am still driving and car COE expires in 2017. Have been riding many years back but changed to car and drives for the past 9 years. Planning to switch back to riding since the cost of maintaining a car is much more than taking a cab to work.

Hence still have amber time to monitor the situation and dun wish to pay so much for a piece of paper that cannot be seen.

Let me share a bit of my research on the figures about COE:

Year 2004 - 10780 bikes deregistered

12082 bikes registered (average 1000+ COE given per month)

Year 2014 - 8052 bikes deregistered

ONLY 8145 bikes registered (average 600+ COE given per month)

The number of bikes registered is obviously to do with the quota system. (ie: more quota given, more bikes can get the COE and registered) Let us look at the quota system for bikes:

Year 2004 - minimum quota for each COE bidding exercise is 500

maximum quota for each COE bidding exercise is 750

Year 2014 - minimum quota for each COE bidding exercise is 316

maximum quota for each COE bidding exercise is 503

The above figures are from LTA's publications and research.

All these factors contributed to sky rocket high COEs nowadays.

For information, quota for first bidding exercise for OCT 2015 is 400

Another interesting to note. Last month 100+ did not manage to secure coe yet it drop. This time 40+ did not secure yet it inch upward although not much.

Im suspecting of control force to make sure coe at that level.

Anyway, if lesser buyer in coming months, probably the coe will dive south. So good luck to dealers who want to hog 6k coe if it really dive south as coe is only valid for 6 month if not registered to new vehicle.

The only way to lower the COE is hold on to old bike. Endure a little longer to own a new bike.

When demand is low and supply remains the consistent, COE will automatically drop.

Dealers also dare not keep so many COEs on hand if the demand is low.

That will take some time, probably another few more months before we can see a significant difference.

But dun expect a $1 COE like in the past, this will never happen again.

3-4k COE still possible if majority of the riders hold on to their old bikes or buy a second hand bike for the time being if die die need a bike due to work requirement.

Possible if all riders are one hearted. astra-honda-motor-to-sponsor-hrc-team-02.png

It is just human nature wanting to have the latest model of this and that. Showing to others that they made it in life and are successful even if it means having years of debts. As you would someone who buys a car eventho its crazy expensive just to show how successful he is. But then again I still only worker/coolie and not supervisory level. What do I know?

not many ppl buy stuffs to show off... dont be a sourgrape. For every 1 person u can identofy that buys a bike/car to show off, I can identify u 20 or more who buys for other reasons. Most common reasons are convenience & personal satisfaction.

If i were you, ride till the last day of COE den buy a secondhand bike and wait for COE to drop further.

Trade in the bike when u feel that COE is affordable for you.

Many car owners are doing this now, that is why we can see many old model cars on the road.

I believe all of us would like to own a new bike and it feels good to own a new bike.

However, paying $6k for the COE is ridiculous to me.

IMO, COE for bikes may drop by end of this year or latest by early months of 2016. I hope my gut feeling is right.

Buy a new bike now is like agreeing to the system and COE is unlikely to drop.

One way to beat the system is by reducing the demand for new bikes.

The lesser the demand, the lower the COE.

Patience... patience... patience...

I hope so too. Worker/Coolie like me need bike to go work. Owning a new bike is better as it does not come with problems from previous owners.

I am not sure about this arrangement.

But I do know that by doing this, we are encouraging the COE price to remain at the current status. (ie: super high)

So think twice about doing this.

workers n coolie normally company got provide transport to pick u up mah... squeeze at the back of the pick up. u atas coolie is it? but I think u're actually the coolie boss... no problem to buy a new bike ah.. but since ur curent bike likely to be a very high end n perhaps a collectors grade bike, renew coe better?

Expected going up as new MRT lines coming up end of the year! Could be $8-9k by this year and $10 -12K by end of next years for Bikes!

Have been putting up this threads to monitor the COE up trend! Since from October 2014 1st Open Bidding Exercise for Motorcycle: $4,800.00, February 2015 1st Open Bidding Exercise for Motorcycle: ]$5,504.00, APRIL 2015 1st Open Bidding Exercise for Motorcycle $6,312.00 and the latest October 2015 1st Open Bidding Exercise for Motorcycle $6,201.00 there is no sign of COE drop below $5-6K when they have slightly higher quota given for past 3 months. That shows the COE will never drop unless something serious happened (like economy crisis....) and there is less demand in personal transport!

By looking at the market ppl still buy new bikes even the COE is higher especially the big CC. If I'm not wrong, the biggest buyers (correct me if I'm wrong) are big companies that purchase more then 5 bikes each time, like Singpost, Certis CISCO, Courier companies ... which i saw their staff is riding new bikes in the market. If these big players and those who can afford don't mind paying high COE , I don't think COE will drop!

More and more new MRT lines and more public transport(Buses) is coming up, if COE is low who wants to take the public transport! SO dun complaints just have to take it, for those lower and middle income who need a basic transport will have no choice but to change their life style! Another way is to get "FAST and EASY" loan from legal loan companies that it can easily found in the market, some will sms you, some will stick the advertisement at your door or lift or found in the web :(

View and Poll Results: What is the reasonable price for a 10 years COE for motorcycle

10k coe? I feel 10k to 12k coe is still affordable for bikes since loans are in house and are not restricted by MAS rulings such as cars. As long as there's no regulation on downpayment/loan period etc, new bike buyers wont feel the pinch.

Even a 24K bike (incl COE) with 30% down & 7 yrs repayment wud only cost around $250 per mth. Many people are willing to pay this amount.

To see bike COE go down, we need financial restrictions in place so that bikes becomes more unaffordable to more people. Either that or financial crisis.

yeah I agree... maybe next time will go JB to rent bikes for trips up north. Actually now I'm thinking of going for overseas trips/courses with bike rental to enjoy biking liao. For daily riding just bike a basic functional road bike or some old bikes

I've never think of riding my bike to JB as long as if it can serve my basic daily work to travel places that MRT or Bus can't reach I will be happy already!

Going to JB I always go by MRT and bus (air con) that all!
