At the end of the day, the advantages of high COE are many and the opportunity cost is very low. Imagine, high loan commission, high interests rate, long loan tenure and low opportunity cost. If I were the dealer, I would do that too, use the system milks the customers. I wouldn't be surprise the if few big dealers are all friends with other.

Unless there are no buyers or lesser buyers for the next 6 months.

Longest I have seen for a 2b bike is 5 years. For Class 2 it is 7 years. But then again they ride the bike for a year or two then change again. And the cycle repeats.

I want to ride my bicycle I want to ride my bike..I want to ride my bicycle I want to ride it where I like..

So actually the one that push up the price are those are alwasy in debt and loan to the fullest.

Mostly likely they are whining as well.....Like I mentioned I am too poor to let people earn this interests...

Yay!

AS expected, there will be more certificates of entitlement (COEs) for the next quota period starting next month.

The February-April 2016 quarter will have 25,210 COEs, up from the 21,653 in the current November 2015-to-January 2016 period, or an expansion of 16.4 per cent.

All COE classes enjoy an increase except the goods vehicle and bus category.

Category A - for cars under 1,600 cc or 130 hp - will see its monthly allocation climb 22.5 per cent to 4,057 COEs, while Cat B - for cars above 1,600 cc and 130 hp - gets 18.0 per cent more with 2,417 COEs per month.

Cat E - the open category whose premium currently tracks Cat B's - sees a 23.9 per cent rise to 892 COEs.

The monthly allotment for Cat D - for motorcycles - is 9.0 per cent bigger at 713 COEs.

But Cat C - for commercial vehicles - dips 32.6 per cent or almost a third to 324 COEs.

Don't expect too much for COE to drop, as dealers are holding some of the previous COE with them!

They will not let the COE drop too much as they will loss money, bro!

When COE is high they still have enough buffer COE for their new bike, they will not go high COE. Unless is during the beating date COE is lower, then what they have go for it to even what they have!

Wait till Market is dead or DEMAND is low, but how long? Average bike COE is $6K, you can see Now! 2K wait long long may have a chance:)

Just to add! Anyway COE money doesn't goes to the Dealers! What dealers need to do is to sell, no COE new bikes can't sell here! Factory monthly commitment is there, so who suffer?

Sometime we must look at the roots of what is happening and why thing actually goes wrong/ happened!

I generally agree with what u're trying to say except that the part where dealers "will not let the COE drop too much as they will loss money". yes they will loose money for unused COEs, but its only $200 oer COE. not significant enough for them to purposely bid high to avoid losses.

However fully agree on the this part "What dealers need to do is to sell, no COE new bikes can't sell here". So they need to bid high in order to secure the COE. n ultimately we the buyers r the one to decide whether to buy or not.

I hope you are right, it seem like I don't see too much FBH and FBL bikes on the rd now. If they 6.5k does not bait potential buyers, it can only go down. The point is how long does it takes? 6 months??

It really affects those like me who is going to renew...

I just checked :

Total COEs released in 2015 : 8021

Total Bikes registered in 2015 : 7464

Unused COEs : 557

This 557 works out to slightly less than a month of COE quota which is not much considering some bikes are shipped on orders so COEs already secured but waiting for shipments.

So at max, dealers are only holding on to 1 month of COE supply, but likely to be half or lesser than that.

So end of the day its buyer's demand that keeps COE high.

Less demand, means less bikes sold means less demand for COE

Maybe should implement loan restrictions like cars, min 50% downpayment and max loan 5 yrs, demand sure drop.

There are various loopholes to overcome this...I am sure you still come across $2000 d/p drive away second hand cars.

This will bring down COE but favours the rich as those without cash for down payment will be priced out. Anyway, even for cars, it's only enforced on financial institutions. In house loans r exempted n most bikes loan r in house

only apply to new vehicles. Used vehicles alrdy got COE so no need for this ruling

Then its like chicken and egg situation....the current 6k+ coe levels is still sustainable because obviously people are still buying bikes at these levels, and very soon it will be almost 1 yr liao when coe broke the 6k mark.

Maybe sporeans can afford the coe, just like to kpkb for the sake of it =P

From what I'm aware, the bigger dealerships like dont do in-house loans anymore, instead the banks do it. Usually its the Ah Seng Ah Beng shops that do in-house loans with ridiculous interest rates like 7% or more etc....at least the banks charge sensible interest rates, and dont have to specifically go down to pay instalments lol

Is whether you need or you want! Like me really need it so can't help it. L & L must either renew or go for new! Now is already FBK 8XXX, I think FBL is out or soon

Is Demand or Supply! Demand is high, COE will maintain average or even higher, if lesser then it will drop but won't be 2K! Next is Need or Want, some are buying it leave at carpark seldom ride or as a second/third transport, these are people that eventually rise the COE price for nothing!
