When i bought my bike from private owner, i bought insurance, then travel down and transfer ownership.

For transfer of ownership you have to already posses the valid insurance at the point of transfer.

Or u buy the insuance ask them activate a few days later.

Ya you have to be under an insurance scheme before you can even ride on the roads. If not = riding illegally. If sway sway got mata stop you = big trouble.

This is y when pple sell their bikes to P-platers w/o insurance, they only allow them to test within the carpark and not on main roads.

You gotta get insurance for the bike u r gonna get and then make sure the insurance starts from (or before) the day you take over the bike.
