Hi guys. Heard that the Deauville has quite a few problems:

1. Clucth plate problems.

2. Fuel pump needs replacements after 30+K.

3. Gasket very expensive.

4. Internal spares very expensive.

Can any Deauville owners who use their bike for touring or normal riding comment on the above? thinking of getting this bike but seems that the problems stated are making me think twice....

Can any Deauvillers seek justice regarding the above??Need gd advice coz planning to get 1 by the mth.

:giddy:

Previously did research on this bike, (1) & (2) seems not to be common problems.... However if you get a poorly-maintained 2nd hand bike then maybe all sorts of problems will arise.

But spares are really more expensive + hard to get cos this bike is produced in Spain for Europe markets.... low demand around Asia so cost more to bring in spares. (Dealers cannot enjoy economies of scale)

Even the smallest spark can start a massive forest fire...

When you mentioned parts, what kind of parts were you refering to?

Let's say for example mirrors, the protective "wing", side panniers, handlebars, gaskets, throttle/clutch cables, clutch plates, etc won't come cheap.

That is presuming they fail/or involve in a accident... if let's say you get a brand new bike than the possibility of these parts failing is of course lower. But after a few years there will surely be wear and tear.

Hi, William

I own a 2002 deauville, with combine disc brake. Did a 10,000km maintence yearly. Now my mileage is 49560km . I have not change any clutch plate nor oil pump so far. I will not change it unless I encounter problem.

This is a great bike, like it comfort, riding posture, fairing. dislike its weight and lack of fuel gauge. However, my 16.5litre tank without 3litre of reserve can travel until 290-300km on city riding.

Hi,

My brakes are Nissin (Pardon if I spell wrongly). I bought my bike new at $15500.

thought of selling mine at $8000. But again, What bike should I buy to replace the current. You decide yourself by the bike condition, and the look.

Hiya,

I rode the Deauville for about 19 month before selling it off. Why? Not because it is a lousy ride or problematic bike, but because the spares are bloody expensive. Speedo cables going for $50, mirrors >$200, sideboard cover $120..........and the list goes on.

Eventually sold it off due to changing needs (and high spares cost). One more thing though, better get comprehensive insurance when riding one of these bikes, coz the repairs and replacements can be very painful to your pockets.

hi, i m riding a FT 2001 model w/o combined brakes.. Yes its using Brembo brake instead of Nissin for the later models..

i have ridden for coming 6 mths and the onli major part serviced was the batt.

Gd points for the bike r : fuel economy, i can get 340km b4 hitting reserve, max hit rpm up to 4500rpm per ride, seldom exceed 5000rpm. Smooth and soft engine, shaft driven makes it very silent on the rd. Size is not too big like ST11, stil can squeeze thru cars with ease. Cheap rd tax and insurance for a Class2 bike.

Bad points for the bike r: Unable to start engine even if holding clutch in gear, very troublesome if u stall engine while in higher gears. Clunky gearbox, difficult to get quick n easy neutrals compared to other bikes. Not enough power, it wil lose to a Super4 even though its 250cc bigger, becos of the power-to-weight ratio, horsepower abt the same as Super4. Top speed for my bike is only 170km/h@7500rpm.

Hi all, I agree on the point that Deauville is a great bike to ride. Have not any major problems from the time i owned it till now - about 2.2 yrs. I guess regular maintainence is important in that respect.

Hi all, I'm thinking of getting a second hand Deuville. I understand that there is some difference between bikes from 2000 to 2002. Could someone tell me the differences, teach me how to look out for a good condition bike other than a well maintained outlook. How much does the insurance and road tax cost now? Where is the cheapest place to get spares? Is it FJT? Thank you all in advance for sharing.

If u feel the suspension 'bouncy', a cheaper way is to change to a heavier grade of fork oil to stiffen the forks, the more ex way is to chg the fork spring to a stiffer type. Mayb u can read abt the suspensions setup posted in the forum to get a better understanding ? or wait for 06 deauville test ride report?:lovestruck:

Hi,

Deauville is a great bike. Have been riding it for the past 2 years. Very comfortable and ideal for squeezing through traffic and with sufficient power for touring. Contrary to what Ngio Ong was saying, I personally find that it is more powerful than S4. The fairing and windscreen provide good protection against the elements while maintaining cruising speed of between 170 to 180 over long distance. If Mr. Ong is still riding his DV, he might wish to send it for a repair as it can definitely be started whille in gear with the clutch held in.

Anyway I have an extra photocopy of the manuel. PM me if interested.

Hi guys,

any recommendations on tires? Which brand and model tires is good and lasting for DV? What's the price like? Yes, I'm also wondering if there is any clear headlight protector (like those made for sportbikes) available in the market? Thanks.

Wow.... i m waiting forthe 2006 Deauville...

Hope by the time I get my Class2, the bike will be out.

I like the bike so far from wat I've read. My real concern is this... A very Expensive Spares....

Oh, where do the current Deauville riders go to service their bikes?

I know here to go with my Phantom for servicing... but where to with Deauville? Any reputable and reliable shop your can trust your Deauville to without burning a additional big hole in your pocket?
