*all plans are just estimated, all subjected to change at my discreet or majority decision.
Hotel/Motels will be decided upon reaching location, if really not comfortable with majority decision, the one who reject has the right to choose another hotel/motel/Guesthouse of his/her choice.
Now, advise to people who are interested or keen to go.
1) Must be able to commit to the trip very early so that I can plan as nice as I can.
2) Ability to ride longer distances than predicted due to break down/custom clearances/can't get lodging and etc etc etc.
3) Ability to ride faster at truck roads to keep up with the group that you are in. (might get uncomfortable but just tell anyone that you wan to go at a slower pace)
4) Ability to ride at winding roads and Laos and MHS have many corners, if you get giddy easily, this trip is not for you. (can go kent ridge for practice but this will be ALOT more)
5) You MUST be able to repair your own puncture tires. (everyone is as shag as you are)
6) Rest is important so you must be able to sleep easily at any unfamiliar places.
7) Must be able to take instructions from anyone no matter they are younger or more inexperience than you. (appointed leaders)
Must be capable for making own arrangement if your bike break apart. (into 2) The group mostly will not stop because of 1 person.
9) Must be well verse with your own bike (EO- how many litres/FC and etc)
10) Ability to ride at night when need arises.
11) Must not be calculative when money is concern as there is a need to stay at accommodation that is more expensive, budget for the trip must not be too tight.
12) All riders must be able to be markers/sweepers/troopers.
13) Health must maintain in the best condition as these 14 days will not be as easy as you think. (field camp for 14 days + no slp feeling)
14) No choosy over food/must be able to eat anything that looks "normal".. else you have to look for your own food or survive on bread alone.
15) Insurance is a MUST to cover ASEAN. Thailand and Laos need to purchase their insurance. No argument when cost is involved.
Most of the information is credit to Encik Pat's friend (whose name I forgotten. )
Last but not least, experienced riders are welcomed..
Young and dangerous not welcome thru.
PM me for more details if required.
I'll need tons of details/information once you confirm the trip.
Trip will be close on 1st Jan 2013. I will arrange for a meet up somewhere around CNY 2013 eve or day 1/2 since everyone is off due to PH..
Time for this meet up will be confirm after 10pm.. so don't worry that you cannot go bai bai or acc friends/family in the morning/afternoon/evening.
Minimum speed 95km/h - based on my digital speedo meter. Not your analog meter as my analog shows 110~120 when I'm riding at 95km/h (digital).
Max 8 riders I can handle (anything more will be split into 2 groups) NSH (4 riders/group) will be split by CCs..
1) adesmond2 (KRR)
2) Victor (S4)
3) Shiong (SP)
4) Mas (SP)
5) svit (SUV)
Did not do up any trip report as I had an accident on day 2 (Near Alor Star/near Thailand border), fall terribly and scratched up all my amour and full face helmet. Pretty much ended up injured mentally badly.
A short and brief trip report.
- We ride out on day 1, my bike kept having issues, unable to go up beyond RPM 7 (valve open around 7.5).
- Bike haven't even able to hit our first petrol station, we stopped and I change CDI first, next station stop again as it's still the same, called back Singapore workshop, ask me to wash carb, but I only washed it a few days before hand. Immediately tear up my motorcycle and wash carb.
- Bike works perfectly until a few hours later, my GPS stopped working (due to no charging detected) Chargable cable seems to have some issues somewhere.
- We manage to reach Penang but due to my GPS is down and unable to locate the exact hotel and luckily our driver Svit came and locate us and lead us back to the hotel.
- Upon reaching hotel, I felt exhausted as Bike kept having some issues here and there (felt something is off).
- Next day woke up and feeling refreshed, continue to ride out and saw a biking community having an event at Penang, went there to hang around for a short moment before continuing our trip to Hatyai.
- After which, one bike seems to have issues as need refuel stops, went on to notify other riders as we need to go next fuel station, "the hand sign of pointing your fuel tank".
Next moment after notified the first bike, I slowed down to go back behind the first bike.
The first rider suddenly brake so fast that I could not react in time and bang. We crashed and I fallen.
To be honest, I almost wack that rider or wanted to throw my helmet on him or the floor but subconsciously, I know I can't and my helmet is expensive (at that point of time). hahaha.. so I just throw my glove knowing it would not spolit it.. hahahah..
Seeing the "damaged faring" and broken signal lights and armour pants and jacket torn up, full face helmet scratched, almost go down a hill, the feeling overwhelmed and I wanted to go back home. The other rider did not fall and has no issues at all.
Checked with another rider, he did not have visual on his rear mirror as cannot see the rear, the mirror is more of a display for LTA. This is a no no for any group settings.
We did separated ways as we had a mission to proceed, our mission was to send some goodies and funds to a orphanage home in Laos.
I decided to reversed because of the engine issues (Day 1) and the GPS which works fine in Singapore and added up with accident today. On the way back, I also realised another issue, it's nightfall soon.
I suddenly recall one of my biking buddies went back to iPoh as he has some matters to attend to. He went with us to Hatyai previously. Thus I contact him immediately and he asked me to go to iPoh and he will get in touch with me after he finished up his business there. I was asking for help on which Hotel will be safer for motorcycles. (back in the days, it's very common for motorcycles to go missing overnight if you are not familiar with the place you park at).
After which, he contacted me and asked me to sleepover at his house, which I deeply appreciate for that. I had nightmares over the accident for the next few nights.
While on the way back to Singapore alone, I've encountered a big group of Malaysian bikes about 50 motorcycles. I've hid myself from them from time to time as I'm alone and would not be surprised if I'm being "ambushed".
I remembered the moment when the last few bikes of that group saw me, they horn the front bikers and the front bikers "say to proceed on in hand signs" instead of coming back.. LOL.. felt off isn't it?
After reaching Singapore, took about 2-3 days to resolved all, check bike, no issues, scratches all done up, change head frame as it's broken, GPS wires connection fallen off due to vibrations on bike over long distance, I seriously almost tempted to ride back to join the group since there's a mission on going.
However, heard that they are struck at Thailand as they had another accident and one of the motorcycle (the one who brake) piston jammed, another bike self fallen and many more. Eventually, they completed the mission of going to Laos children home and gave them the donations and monetary forms.
For me, for the next few years, my riding style has changed, became more scared of squeeing between cars and unable to ride beyond 90km/h. (analog)
The riding style only changed back to normal after I upgraded to 2A. (current bike). End of story.. haha
