there is nothing 'special' about the D-ring, its just a piece of stainless steel. not like cleaning chain which different people have different ideas, or the rims which get really thick crud sometimes.

so any standard de-rusting solvent will work. autosol to me is the strongest and most effective, followed by brasso. i always use autosol for any non-crucial de-rusting.

as for preventing, frankly i have never had any of my d-rings rust. if yours is an issue, i think you have to consider wat causes it to rust so much. if its because you perspire a lot when riding, then make sure to wipe with tissue after wearing everytime. if its coz you store the helmet in a musty place like store room, store it somewhere with better ventilation.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

D-ring rust is common with cheap open face helmets. It will rust even faster if you don't dry it up after the rain.

Nowadays I don't bother liao. See rust just use permanent marker to colour it.

But my FF HJC helmet more than 5 year now still no rust, so it depends on the quality of the material used.

The recommended life span of a helmet is from 3-5yrs, No matter how expensive your helmet...lesser if you use it on a daily basis with exposure to the elements.

Autosol is best for anything chrome looking that needs polishing.

If its gold looking, go for brasso.
