fitting such light by DIY is fire hazardous and creating unnecessary glare to other road user.

What is the difference in point by not using it in SG but

"use it for touring"..."riding in malaysa...thailand...offroad"

you still create glare to road user.

Remember no bike is the fastest, no place is that far and no road is that tough.

In what specific way is DIY fitting a fire hazard?

Contary to common misbelief, fitting HID onto bikes manufactured in the recent years will not create glare to other road users; as long as the HID is installed properly and the beam angle adjusted accordingly.

Haizzzzzzzzzz this thread is 4 ppl who need HIDs system - not 4 ppl like U who may not need them. There is no prefect lighting system in the aftermarket, but to be fair to those who DIYed their sets - till now I hv not heard of a set catching fire ley .....

As to the "glare" issue - the whole purpose is to get other road user to notice U - this the HID system is at it's best................laaaaaaaaaaaaaa :cheeky: :cheeky: :cheeky:

U R wrong Mr. Cheeko - Electronic ballast are not extremely sensitive...... they are veri "PRECISE" Equipment being " Electronic" . If they are tuned to a working range then they work - so if they are not tuned to the bike working range then they may not work. The new range of Electronic ballast are 12v or 24v application. I have to confirm if they are within the Bike "Working range".

This is because Singapore roads are adequately lighted.

Long stretches on NSH in Malaysia have no street lamps at all and the roads are only illuminated by your headlights. Stock headlights do not shine far. As a safety guide, you will want to be able to see 12s ahead of you. At 110km/h, this translates to a distance of 367m. This means, you will want to be able to see 367m ahead while at 110km/h. Stock headlights already have problems shining anything furthur than 50m.

The danger lies in not being able to see what is on the road ahead of you before you have time to react. This is also known as outrunning your headlights.

because after-market HID uses the stock reflector, glare cannot be totally eliminated. For square lamps, glare can be mininise, but it can be really irritating for round lamps. You dip it low, it minimise glare, but to little forward light, you want sufficient forward light, you irritate the whole world.

Beam Pattern is determined by the lens & reflector, or projection system for HID, a good driving lamp (such as Hella FF series) using halogen bulb can throw lights 400m ahead.

HID has it's downside. I was driving in Cameron Highlands in Nov 05, at night in heavy fog, with HID, I saw nothing because the fog reflected all the lights back, quite similar to seeing a white wall. I had to depend on my fog lights (HID Off). Fortunately I was proceeding down hill, using the edge of the hill as a guide and slowly made it to Ringlet town.

It is another common misconception that HID is a fog light system.

HID is not a replacement for fog lights.

It is a replacement for halogen lights.

If one wants HID to penetrate fog better, he/she can consider getting a lower Kelvin rated HID bulb.

When you buy HID system, you have to choose the colour temperature.

Choose a lower one to better penetrate fog.
