My bike has clocked almost 28,000 km already, not even one year old yet.

I used to hear a ticking noise not too long ago but now I don't, it sounded more like the valves chattering more than anything else. There was a time too I noticed the sound of the cam chain tensioner.

But after whacking the bike on the track ever so often... I don't notice the sounds anymore. Mebbe its beacause all I hear now is the wind in my helmet.

But then again... I change engine oil like every 2000 - 3000 km. And I never use synthetic oils except mineral based oils like Castrol or Caltex and I use thick oil of the 20W50 specs. Thicker oil provides better cushioning than thinner oil. Oils with a viscosity of 5 or 10W50 are great for winter climates where the cold temperatures will thicken the oil but ain't worth using in our tropical climate.

:offtopic: Any CBR1000RRs interested in for an outing to PG on 9th Aug?? So far, AT says he is going (hopefully he wakes up in time!) and he mentioned Chilly was going to be the photographer again. It is weekday rate anyway, RM35 for an hour of adrenalin rush, then after that to Marbella Pub and Bistro at Perling for lunch.

Sure is great to sit in an airconditioned place to eat in track leathers.

I ever asked an experienced mechanic about the the pinging sound

that came when in idling mode & warming up the engine.

After listening for a few mins,he said nothing to worry about the noise

as it's natural for new bikes to have that sound.

The sound was caused by the fuel spraying the new metal at the headers

thus causing the sound. The sound will go off once there's a carbon

build up inside the headers. He also told me to to whacked the bike hard

once a week as sports bikes nowadays are meant to be ride hard.

True or false , up for u guys to judge

Been wanting to get a Dainese mask and Dainese short gloves for a long time. I knew JR brought in new stuffs, but they had no time to unpack and bring them down for display. One fine day happen to pass by, just my luck.

1st pair of gloves and mask sold to me. :cheeky:

Dunno what happpened, from what I heard, a bike went down. But traffic was slow moving, dunno how it could've went down. Jam was bad that night. Dunno how long we waited, but lucky Ideal's bike was just behind me, so we just chatted, time just flew by.

Had Abang Chilly crabs!

The ticking sound is a mystery. Some new bikes already have this sound right out of the box, some at a later stage.

Some mechs think it's CCT, some think it's fuel injectors, some think it's time for valve adjustment, some thinks it's tappet, for taichi masters, they just think it's nothing.

Ken has this theory that if you whack the bike hard, this ticking sound will disappear. So far Raptor and another ang mo post from some forum had confirmed this. But my engine consistently red-lines in JB.

A FI-ed car I had also had this ticking sound. Not sure whether it's due to syn oil, but Tweety, you're still on mineral right? I am also not so sure whether we're talking about the same sound.

Meng Tong did tell Ken once it's nothing, not sure why he told Tweety otherwise. Maybe you have something we don't have. Hmm. I think Ken should go with Tweety to see MT 1st. Ken, you're free in the mornings right?

Raptor, with all the things you've done with engines, can you come out with something believable?

The CCT is auto tensioning. The tension will loosen up slightly with wear and tear and then at some point, by some clever mechanical design, it will tighten again, then loosen up slightly and then tighten up again until the CCT wears off and you replace with a new one. So you might hear the CCT noise again at some point.

hi all, i need some help from you all

Can someone tell me where to do the removal of the catalyst?

i am planning to do it one of these days

Wat's the price and how long it take? N it's it true cbr1000rr got 2 catalyst?

Tashi: hi, i read ur post regarding there's a crack line at the middle fairing, can't find it again( i can't remember read in which of the crr thread)

how to solve this issue as i got this crack line also

Sorry for so much question

Oh u also got it.....???

I'll try to ask for a change of new pipie, if not than hv to live wit the ugly exhaust. :weep:

Does ur sound when u moving?

My does, esp when on 2nd gear!!

LD; Their ticking noise is only when at idle and low RPMs le?

Meng tong ever mention tt my could be the cos of the 'ten pad'(sry dun know how the spelling 4 tt) & dun know wat that too....

the thing that mentong is trying to say is promounce as tappet, but i dun noe whether i spell it correctly...

those are arms with springs to secure ur shims that determines the clearance for ur valves. can be intake valve, exhuast valve, blah blah blah....

i didn't get to lay my hands on the tadpets for a cbr1000rr b4, dun even know it exist in modern bikes... but those were used for air-cooled engines, eg XR4...

the tick tick sound on low revs i suppose is exactly the same as those from ill-maintained XR4.... hehehe... so far no sound from the cbr i'm riding.... let's see if the sound surface after the hard run-in... will keep u guys in the loop...

had been riding the CBR for a couple of days, found out the top-end rush is really enjoyable... so much so for a 8 nozzle injector.... nice bike!!! :thumb:

ken: i dun miss you....

tashi: yah... that night i rushed off early from perlin to run-in the bike, and i reached GPesso earlier than u... after which parked one corner to relac, after saw u leaving GPesso, and yes, we didn't notice each other at the station.... hahaha... anyway nice pipe u have....

heard from my mechanic, the catalizer were found in the headers and the most common place is the end-can.... I removed the header catalizers and it sound a little bit different... after that....

as for the muffler thingy, i think Ken is the best person to answer this question... let me say it on behalf of him... Ken's advise is u remove the end-can and bring it to SengKuang for them to cut it open, knock out the intestines, and weld it back again.... the welding will look like ur OEM welding, therefore, it will not look like it had been tempered with... it's ard 200bux.... Ken also advised that after the mod, install a PC3 to regulate ur air/fuel mixture, so that the power can be optimised...

ken: am i right???

Tashi: wat about the crack on the fairing???? is it on the right side fairing??

When in N no sound le.

the k&n is good for reusing only, u can purchase the recharger at 16bux....

according to the angmohs, their r&d results tell them that the filter actually saps 1/2bhp from the bike.... but who cares about their r&d??? non-certified also.. kekekeke....

if u go back to loois, the most they can help is to help u to inform BS, go straight to BS workshop and find the foreman for an answer... wanna go down together?? i have some frame issues to KPKB about....

oh yah... BTW, stock sir-filter proved to be the better filters for the bikes... thought non-rechargable, but the airflow is better..... end of the day, it's ur choice....
