I also want to kaypoh abit…

Actually, “choke” is a term loosely used by bikers to refer to various type of enriching circuit/mechanism on carburetor equipped bikes.

The true “choke” enriching mechanism has a choke plate (similar to a butterfly throttle plate) to reduce the air flow entering the carburetor hence creates a rich mixture (less air), hence the name "choke"

Another commonly seen type is enriching circuit/plunger type that open up a passage in the carburetor to allow more fuel to flow by pulling a plunger via a knob on the carburetor body or cable activated.

EFI bikes lagi weird, ECU will auto adjust the A/F ratio when the engine is cold, the "choke" on the bike is just a fast idling level but most people still call it choke.

Also, poor fuel droplets atomization when the engine is cold is the main reason that we need a rich mixture.

finished kay poh, have a nice day:thumb:

I've seen how you've provided lots of advice and insights on bike mechanics topics.

Therefore, we definitely desprately need your "kaypoh" insight and expertise on this (and other) subjects :thumb:

I am also a learner like you and I no action talk only. Using keyboard and mousr instead of wrenches and screw dirvers when comes to bike mechanics

thnx fo the info redbeacon.. its really helpful.. alot of my frens told me that choke is not good. But majority in this post tells me tat its actually kinda common to use choke..

I guess its not a bad thing after all:cheeky:

ya choke is not a bad thing...neither is this a superb piece of equipment..

use only sparingly..prolong use of this will "damage" your engine..

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time:dot:

the purpose of the choke is to make the intake richer ..this is an aid to starting the bike..ie make the gasses ignite easily...especially when the weather is cold and wet or even when left for a few hours some bike have difficulty in starting.

when the air is wet and cold....when the bike is left overnight "condensation" takes place the cylinder, sometimes this condesation on some bikes/engine s difficult to start. some larger engines have auto choke to help it to start..the choke will be disabled after a minute or 2.

Now prolong usage like using the choke for long rides will eg. foul up your cylinder..carbon build up quickly..and nasty un burnt fuel compounds will eventually leads to an engine failure and a top overhaul will be required to solve the problems created..

so the choke is a neccessity but definitely bad if prolong usage is required..

Much as I want to, my choke is stuck.. can't pull.. Maybe it's been a long time since I last used it..

ur choke at handle bar one isit? my fren one also last time stuck.

huh? how come can get stucked? aint aware of tat possibility to the choke..is it diff bike diff choke type?

Probably I didn't used it for like 3-4months.. Maybe another option is for me to lubricate the area around the choke..
