I think I read somewhere on the net. The bulb will get dimmer and dimmer over time. I forgot where ah. See if I come across it again, will post here. So means will need a replacement soon. Anyway nothing lasts forever.

one of the main reason is leakage of the inert gas in the bulb...so over time you can sure notice it....just look at the light tube/bulbs at home...

i suppose the same reason can apply....LED is another story altogether..this led has alife of 50k to 60k hrs..means practically guareanteed for the life of your bike..so there is auction in yahoo for $5 a pair...if u r interested..

inert gas in the bulb will slowly dissipate by itself over a period of time due to the lighting up of the filament.

All filament bulbs have a lifespan in terms of manhours - the H4 60/55watt is 800 manhours, the 100/90watt abt 600 manhours & 130/90watt is only 300 manhours. Towards the end of their lifespan, they do loose their lighting power. LEDs hv a lifespan of 50,000 manhours but sadly the other related components cannot last that long ..................

1)Battery

2)Rectifier

3)Coil.

ur headlight is the best indicaion of faults to these 3 items.

sorry to add this is not the reason...actually the infusion of outside air into the bulb...this is something like the crt tv..it looses its vaccum (outside air infused...) and the picture sharpness deteriotes..with time..

this addition of outside air causese the filament to oxidises..and the light gets dimmer with time until it kaput..IMHO:angel:
