dont forget, you can swop here and swop there for now... but when its time for COE renewal... you will feel the pinch. Layup also must buy COE one.

yes, you are right. But 1 year only can ride 28days for classic car. i dun see the point. bike COE is like $1-1000 + for past few year. Car is like 10K-20K for classic car....

rem that once you change your bike to classic plate, you cannot change it back to normal plate anymore.

classic car with normal plate price can sell up for 40-50K

classic car with classic plate price can sell up 20-30k

Do you know what i mean in the 1st place?

Car COE is very ex that why they had something call classic plate

Bike COE is still resonable..

To me 28day really cannot make it.

you see, with 80 bikes, he needs to for 80 COEs..... the whole idea is for people to keep their beloved bikes at a lower cost, NOT to enable them to use it daily for transport. but the classic car only need to pay for 10% of the prevailing coe. (pardon me if its not 10%). the thing is not so much about the road tax.. its more about the COEs. how many COE can you afford? i certainly cannot afford 80COEs. dont forget, even lay up also must buy COE one horr!

With a classic bike scheme, we can preserve a lot of the bikes that we have now so that the next generation can appreciate them. Singapore is a funny country, we cannot bring in old bikes from overseas. The only way to do it is to preserve these machines.

i already memtion, singapore can bring old bike and must be really old..

Do you see the bike i post, that was import in few years back.

That is the bike we need to show the next generation.

That bike look like a bicycle but it's a 750cc bike.

i dun see a point for buy new bike as a weekend bike.

Weekend car= pay less COE and road tax but car price still the same

DUCATI desmorr + 80k BUT COE only 1 k. So you want weekend bike, LTA ask you to pay $200 COE instead of $1000. End up, your Ducati DesmoRR cost $79200 with $800 less for COE. Road tax, if you can buy a DesomoRR and i think $3-400 road tax is not an issues.

I'm not talking about getting a DesmoRR using the off peak option..Seriously, if i gt that kind of money, i would buy a Euro R..The Desmo cost $120k OTR as reported by the news a few months back..

And of cos if the OPB option is available, they cant follow the same discount as what is given to a car isnt it??

you cannot compare the price of a car coe to a bike coe. first of all, bikes itself are in general cheaper than a car.

an old classic bike that is worth about 4k, having to pay a $1000 coe, thats about 25% of the vehicle price.

whether or not a classic or a weekend car works very much depends on where you are coming from. There's no right or wrong.

bottomline is, why is it that car owners gets all the perks and we bikers dont have any options open for us? If we have a couple of options open to us, then its up to individual to make the choice that is most appropriate to himself. A car owner can choose between a normal car and a weekend car. We do not even have a choice open to us. Thats what I am driving at.

Yes, if you ask me got ppl will pay 80k for that bike.

There is a ang mo bike collector at singapore. He own many rare bikes..

He even pay 10-20k for a nor running bikes...

I happen to see he has a personal bike towing that have a number plate on that.. he drive his car and attach that towing thing at the back..

He pay COE for that towing. that thing has no engine on it...

I dunnno how he get LTA to approve that..

Only thing i know is he very rich, a CEO of a insurance company...

When bikes are taxed as heavily as cars, you'll get such options too.

OPC: $17,000 off ARF, then COE. What is a bike's ARF and COE?

OPB? Sure, $17 off. See if you want to take up or not.

We live in interesting times!

well.. i guess you've got a point too. But if LTA is willing to give us an option, why not? It doesnt hurt to choose right?

ALso, dont forget that bikes got no scrap value unlike cars....

with the growing demand of italian bikes etc, hopefully the mindset can change. A BMW, Harley or Ducati can buy 2 bloody cheapo weekend car! I think a top range BMW or Harley can be more expensive than a Nissan Sunny. Bikers have evolved and people should change their mindset.

The fact that so many people visited this forum is proof that bikers are in the very least english educated and computer literate among other things.

To change the mindset of the society is not an easy task. Try telling any of your car-loving friends who have no knowledge whatsoever about motorcycles and chances are they'll say it is better to get a car with the price you are paying for the bike (these people are what I call shallow). Thus, leading them to think that we are not only "low-educated ( again)" but stupid as well.
