whoa what you mean by you grind off 2 tooth?? need to share this at next meet man~

My personal account of changing to a smaller rear sprocket

I have been reading overseas shadow ace 750cc forum and they have been giving good feedbacks on a smaller rear sprocket modification 38tooth from the original 41tooth.

Since the modification allowed me to use a 120 525 links chain(commonly used for a super four ; giving me a wider, cheaper range of chains) instead of a 122 link and I was due to a chain change, for shits and giggles, since it was never spoken here in our forum, i went ahead to order it online. Despite mine being a 400cc.

Mechanic said it will give me less power and its not a good mod for a 400cc. Climbing up carparks will be hard.

I am stubborn and ordered it anyway. As by ratio, the change was minimal.

I bought a chain and it was on the way on freight but its taking too long! But waiting for it means my mods are reversible!

I was impatient and since i was at the mechanic, i had him to it.

I watched as he grinded off two links and when he took off the sprocket, it was 43 TOOTH!

Siao liao :sian:

Riding off, bike keeps stalling when clutching in so i had to increase the idling.

As I hit the first gear, it seems 10-15% slower than normal but the taller gearing meant that i could drag it longer. So its not something too much of a difference.

Second gear was the same as the first.

But once it hit 40km/hour, OMG! You need less rpm to increase your speed! Its really obvious!

I shifted too early and at 60 at the last gear, it gave that draggy wrong gear feeling. However, at 70, it felt right.

I found myself moderating well at the highway from 90-120km/hr.

It no longer gives that finding the last gear feeling.

Its a really nice smooth cruising experience now.

This is a great mod and i strongly reccomend it.

I will never change back to the stock 43t gearing.

This really feels right and is the best mod i have ever done to my shadow.

I will update this again with the fc and the multi storey carpark climbing abilities.

Would love to join but my bike not tested for a long haul yet. Mine is '96 VT1100C2...Kinda weekend bike (if I have the time to ride...that is). So not sure if the engine can handle hours of ride. Anyway, the date falls on Hari Raya, so gotto give it a miss this time

Thanks...well maintained by previous owner. Anyone interested in riding to Hatyai 08-11 Aug 13...planning a trip

Any idea if a superfour headlight would fit in nicely on a cruiser?

It seems that there's a gap between the fender and the headlight which i find rather disturbing. haha. how do you guys handle this?

1. Lower rear suspension?

2. Add Lights?

3. Add Horns?

4. Get a bigger fender?

I agree with the leather tool bag below the headlight. Adding a good set of driving lights will complete the picture.

This is a good bike. The owner before Tony put in a lot of money onto the bike. Bike has been serviced at Dr Rosli, so the bike is in good hands. I wanted to buy the bike from Tony when I returned from HK 3 years ago, but to do that, I had to let go of my beloved Shadow 1st. In the end, I didn't bother.

Moved to Australia last year, I also thought of getting a VTX and do the same mods but my wife will kill me because if I do up from scratch, the accessories could cost more than the bike itself!

Then I saw my other dream bike and no looking back.....

It's a good bike, rogngts. I'm still a bit sad that I didn't buy it, but I know now, it's not meant for me.

Tip #5

Our brake hose is 106cm long.

Tip #6

Sitting on the bike, pulling the right cover at your thigh is where your fuses are.

There is a diagram there. However, the right most(closest to the headlight) and the two that are perpendicular are spares.

Tip #7

Your main fuse is located behind the left cover.
