Change the brake pads to better quality ones.

 

You get what you pay for.

Cheap brake pads have more fibrous material than metal so you get the squeal.

 

But to everything there are gains and losses. Good brake pads have higher metal content and wear down your discs faster due to higher friction. Higher friction equals to better stopping power and less noise.

 

The pistons of the brake calipers have nothing to do with the noise unless the squealing still persist during normal acceleration and cruising.. then its sticky piston housings (brakes grabbing) due to dirt and brake dust.

 

Spraying WD40 only frees the sticky brake pistons in the calipers... but the problem will be worst when it dries up. The only way to resolve a sticky piston is to dismantle the whole caliper into pieces and clean the insides.

 

Spraying WD40 onto the disc to eliminate the sound is not only a dangerous thing to do but totally insane.

i have this problem, on top of that, i can hear my front wheels giving out squeaks even when i'm moving (not depressing the brakes at all).

 

i know it is the front wheel 'cos the sound disappears when i press the front brakes a little. and also i changed my brake pads not long ago.

 

is my disc damaged?

Cheap brakepads contributing to alot of brake dust causing the sound rubbing wif ur brake disc.

another thing maybe the piston doesnt retract and u need to replace the seal for less then $10 DIY. Always flush ur old brake oil, only use dot 4 brake oil when u change ur brake pads to keep the piston from gettin jammed.

No, unless you can feel pulsations on the lever during braking.. the brake disc should not be warped.

 

The brake pads could just be glazed due to dirt or brake dust... not bedded in properly.

 

One way is to to take the pads out and sand them lightly with a fine grit sandpaper. Also sand the contact area of the brake disc.

 

Try and scratch across the disc from inside out with your finger nail. If you can feel your nail catching on the grooves... the disc is badly worn and I would strongly recommend that you get it replaced.

 

To bed in new pads properly requires you to apply the brakes very hard while on the move to 'wear' them in.

 

At least 70% of the stopping power comes from the front brakes. Don't play cheap on them if you can... your life may depend on their effectiveness.

 

Spend abit more money and get the good quality stuff. It can mean stopping in time or impacting.

hmmm i get the idea now. my brake pads are cheap ones, but they still able to give me gd braking power.

my dad fix this isumi brakpads for $10 per caliper for super 4. i brake during the rain and the brake was effective after few metres of depressing the lever. from that day onwards, i dont mind spending extra cash for a quality brakepads. lesson learnt the hard way. :lol:

Well if that is the case... you just got to live with the noise. Hopefully it goes away when the brake pads get more seasoned and bedded down.

Dunno where this belief come from. Its a brake pad not a bike. Who tell you this?

 

Sounds just like as though it is a new bike which requires a "run in" period.

 

Glazing can happen if you are braking lightly all the time.

 

Anyway... I always do hard run ins for my bikes... ie out of shop and take to the tracks and whack. Same time I am bedding in the brake pads too. :thumb:

wat i learn is that glazing will happen to new brake pad if used for hard braking at initial stage.. the high temp incur at the 1st layer will cause glazing..
