Hi fellow riders... i haf a qn regarding tire vibration

I have changed my tt900 rear tire at LAB last weekend and after that i realised some sideway vibration when i accelerate/ carry pillion. The porblem become worse at 60kph, where I get headshake if i let my hands go. It is quite scary actually.

Is this due to the rear tire being imbalance? Or am I just being too sensitive after tire change?

When I put on main stand and spin the back tire, I can see the center wheel thread moving left and right instead of nicely centered. Is there any centering service at LAB or any shop?

Thanks

Hi guys, thanks for your replies

I checked the hub and the rims, they appear to be fine. The rubber also appear to be evenly seated throughout the rim

It is the rubber tire that is uneven. Is it common for the tire to be uneven?

Thanks

How do you determine if the tire is uneven??

Anyway, tire not installed properly, improper tire pressure, leaking fork seal and maybe some other reason will cause head shake.

Improper balance tire will also contribute to instability, but at a higher speed.

If the tire is really uneven, get it changed. Also check the manufacturing date of the tire on the tire wall.

LAB's workshop is notorious for its workmanship.

I will by fresh tire from them, but I will never as them to change for me.

Get your problem solve quickly, tires are the only thing between you and the road.

Do share with us the real cause and solution to your problem so that we can learn something form you experience.

Cheers.

btw what bike r u riding? seems like ur rear rim/hub/wheel bearing not at good shape. head back to the mech and ask him to test ride ur bike.

check ur rear wheel bearing if it has free play. if its headshake i doubt its ur front tire bro. warp front tires are main obvious cause of headshake. u can see the tires are not worn off evenly like pineapple shape and bridgestone tires are very common for warp tires which i encountered bt020, 090 and 014. followed by wheel bearings, steering cone, fork leakage and tire pressure.

my vtec times, LAB has done good service to my bike and no probs at all. of course there are only 2 reliable mechs i head to which is the muscular fit guy and middle age chn guy wearing overall jumpsuit. the tires do come with balancing fyi. but 60kmph u wont feel the effect of improper tire balancing. my ex st 11 which i rode till 170kmph then i can feel the bike wobbling not headshake due to no balancing done.

The last time I went to LAB workshop is to fix up my side boxes, that was about a year ago. The mech wanted to cut my signal wires of my still under warranty bike.

From my number plate can tell it is a new bike already, still want to cut my wires :faint: . Luckily I saw and stopped him in time (have been warned by my friends that's why I was watching him closely).

Before even saying the tires are the cause of your proble, you should first determine whether your tire fitted are the correct profile for your type of bike.

Next, is your head set bearing O.K, that is is the handle bar turning smoothing from left to right?

Are your rear suspension worn and the front suspension needs servicing?

Next, are your wheel hub bearings worn or out of alignment and/or the axle nuts tightened too much.

Are your brake pads jammed at your caliper and cause your heavy drag to your wheels?

Next, check whether your tires are mounted correctly and there are no flaw on the surface wall and the treading on the tires. Sometime, defective tires do get into the market where there are bumps on the treading and other irregularites in the tire carcass.

Lastly, did your this bike met with a pervious bad accident that the chassis and swing arm are already out of alignment?

Sorry to dig up this old post, but I think I'd be doing LAB an injustice if I didn't.

Several months went by after installing the tire, and I went to my regular mech. The new tire actually made the bearing problem more pronounced , but the cause of the shaking is the wheel bearings being worn out already! My research from other bike forums also confirmed that new tires do make wheel bearing problems more observable.

Hope that clears things up. Also, he told me that the tire centerline will not be even throughout, but it doesn't cause vibration and is normal for tt900 series. And that i observed to be true after fixing up new bearings.

Almost forgot abt this post until I was clearing my bookmarks today! I still get my tires from LAB nowadays actually

Cheers and thanks for all bros advise
