Looking to buy a 2A bike. But might go for 2 after getting my license. Which 2A bike would be more resell able after a year or 2 of use? Looking at getting a new bike and not used one.

Appreciate your recommendations and also the shop that gives you best bang for buck.

To start off with, most lost will incur if you were to get a brand new unit imo

I think TS is asking what bike is resellable - as in high demand. Not what will make the least loss. Some bikes even if sell cheap cheap also not many people want.

This is especially true for sports bikes. Sell cheap also hard to find buyers

Most likely a Honda Super4 or 400X bah... Both are very popular. A super4 in good condition will likely be easy to sell as it is one of the few 2A bikes with 4 cylinders, has good power and easy to get parts. The other 4 cylinder 2A bike is the Suzuki GSR400, but it is not so popular.

400x will appeal to those looking for a small adventure-bike wanna-be.

That said, if you are thinking of upgrading to class 2, I think it is wisest to buy a used bike that is just 1-2 years old with low mileage. It should still be in very good condition and give you no problems. You can ride it for 2 years and sell it off for a smaller loss. Your loss will be much larger for a new bike.

All very true about the reducing loss by getting a pre-owned instead of brand new. But then again, to each his own. Some people really don't mind paying that "brand new premium" to get that satisfaction of owning and riding a brand new bike. I'm just assuming things here - but maybe TS don't mind paying a little bit more to have that "brand new" feeling leh? So even if he wants to upgrade later, he gets to have this "brand new" feeling TWICE wor! Once with the 2A bike, another time with the 2 bike. Or maybe he already got a brand new 2B also.... That makes it triple times! Or perhaps TS may think that COE will continue to climb?? I know of people of bought their bikes when COE cost 2k plus, and subsequent sold the bike for same price or even slightly higher when COE hit 6k region. So no loss in that sense....

Seen CB400X 2ND hand with 1-2 years in gg at 15-16k. Not that far from 19k retail. Or is that high price the reason why they are not sold yet.. Don't really need the new feel, though I did have a 2nd hand 2B and had to change quite a bit of parts which almost amounted to 2k. Partially bad exp from 2nd hand I guess which is why I'm considering 1st.

Guess the next natural question would be how much would a 3rd hand depreciate if it's another 2 years older with about 50k km inside. $14k or $10k range?

I myself bought a used CB400 Super4 Revo for $15K just last year. Only 10 months old with 4500km on the odometer. It was still shiny and literally as good as new without a single scratch. Came with Givi box, crashbars, shorty brake/clutch levers, sleek sporty mirrors, and, best of all, a Yoshi R77 endcan.

Brand new, with all that stuff, is probably around $22-23K. So I definitely got a good price and it was worth it, esp with the 7-8K savings. The bike performed flawlessly, never gave me a single problem, and when I sell it later this year (taking my class 2 soon and will be upgrading), I expect to get maybe 14K for it. So, my loss after riding it for 1year+ is 1k or less.

Anyway, just because a seller is asking 15-16K doesn't mean you have to pay it. Just negotiate. You can get it down by 1K or more if you are sincere and offer to buy it fast. Many people will take a lower price for a quick sale instead of waiting for months, esp if they are itching to upgrade. In any case, saving 3-4K is still significant. And when you resell your used bike, you may lose "only" 1-2K, but the original owner lost much more.

End of the day, it's your money and you best decide how to spend it, wisely or otherwise. I can only give tips based on my own experience buying a 2nd hand bike and having done a fair bit of research on 2nd bike price, and based on the assumption that most bikers (other than the Harley, BMW or Ducati crowd) want to save money.

I assume, rightly or wrongly, that saving a few thousand dollars won't be a priority for people buying these premium price bikes.

Harley/BMW/Ducati owners dont want to save money meh?

Saving money is one thing, however just throwing away money without logical reason (whatever it may be) is just dumb.

Everybody will wanna save money if possible, be it premium or non premium bike owners
