From my understanding (and I could be wrong), a Singaporean can buy a motorcycle (or car) in Malaysia and use it in Malaysia. However, he cannot bring (drive or rode) that vehicle into Singapore. You'd have to have enough $$$ to pay for the vehicle too as it's difficult if not close to impossible to obtain vehicle financing for a foreigner without residency status in Malaysia.

WHO IS ALLOWED TO USE AND KEEP A FOREIGN-REGISTERED VEHICLE?

You are not allowed to use or keep any foreign-registered vehicles in Singapore if you are a:

 

Singapore Citizen

Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)

Resident of Singapore

Long Term Visit Pass Holder or Dependant Pass Holder

Work Pass Holder who is also a resident of Singapore

Student Pass Holder

Training Employment Pass or Work Holiday Pass

However, any person who holds a Work Pass issued by Ministry of Manpower, who is also not a resident of Singapore, may drive a foreign-registered vehicle in Singapore only if ALL these conditions are met:

 

He is the registered owner of the vehicle.

He resides outside Singapore.

He has a valid insurance certificate and road tax to use the vehicle on Singapore roads.

The vehicle is kept or used outside Singapore for a total period of 6 hours or more every day.

The vehicle has an Autopass Card to validate its entry/ exit at Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints and to pay for VEP/ toll charges.

The answer below i asked few year ago, may NOT accurate nowadays.

 

Singapore permanent resident (SPR) working and residing in Malaysia

However, in recognition of the needs of bona fide Singaporeans or Singapore PRs working and residing in Malaysia to make home visits to Singapore, we could consider you for the special concession scheme. Under the scheme, all approved applicants are allowed to drive their Malaysia-registered cars into Singapore for all weekends, all Singapore public holidays and another 28 weekdays in a calendar year. Approval will be given on a case-by-case basis with consideration to the following:

 

 

The applicant (his spouse or his company) is the registered owner of the vehicle. If the vehicle is rented/leased by his company, he has to submit an official letter from the company stating the period the vehicle is leased for and that the vehicle is provided solely for his use;

He is working and residing in Malaysia;

He is required to apply to LTA for approval when his earlier approval letter has expired (i.e. upon expiry of his vehicle's insurance/road tax or 6 months, whichever is earlier);

His vehicle has a valid Malaysia road tax disc and insurance coverage for the period it is used in Singapore; and

He must keep, in each of his visit, his vehicle outside Singapore before the VEP grace expiry of 14 days from the date of the last entry.

A photocopy of your Singapore identity card (front and reverse sides);

A photocopy of your passport with the relevant page of your employment pass endorsed by Malaysian Immigration or Malaysian identity card (if any);

A photocopy of your vehicle's valid registration card (front and reverse sides) with latest valid road tax endorsement by Road Transport Department, Malaysia;

A photocopy of your vehicle's valid insurance certificate;

If the vehicle in your application is registered under your company's name (or is rented/leased by your company), we would also require an photocopy of your employer's letter stating the period the vehicle is leased for and that the vehicle is given solely for your use and that only you can drive the vehicle; and

A photocopy of your marriage certificate (if you are applying with your spouse's vehicle).

Hi, iknowuwanthislah, may I know your reasons of buying a Malaysian bike?

 

Where will you use the bike? Mainly in Malaysia or Singapore?

 

If you want to buy a Malaysian bike and used it mainly in Singapore, I'm afraid the cost is going to offset whatever savings you have on the bike. You have to pay S$4 (Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP)) everyday to enter Singapore and stay in Singapore, except Sat, Sun and Public Holidays, this adds up to a hefty sum of S$1000 per year! 365 days minus 104 Sat/Sun minus 11 PHs =250 days multiply S$4 = S$1000 per year!

 

If you use it for 10 years that is S$10,000!

 

If you buy because there are certain model that is not available in Singapore, then please check again because I m quite sure Singapore has more bikes models than Malaysia has.

 

Insurance you can always get an Malaysian insurance company to include insurance in Singapore, I think all Malaysian vehicles are insured in Singapore, just like all Singaporean vehicles insurance are insured in West Malaysia.

 

Cukia Jalan pay to their JBJ. Road text if less than 150 cc is free (RM1 to register). There is no compulsory vehicle inspection in Malaysia, except when you want to sell your car, but I am not sure if bike need to adhere to this rule.

 

Don't forget you need to install IU also to go through ERP, about S$200.

You want to use it in JB then I think it is a good idea to buy a bike in JB, about RM 5000 you can one.

 

But do park your bike inside house, if park outside the house, please chain it properly.
