Hi!

Yes, I love fountain pens.

Starting from my first fountain pen Sheaffer Targa Matte Black stainless steel that I saved up like blazes for back in P6 (1980), I then got back into it 4 years ago. :-)

Fountain pens are just so enjoyable to use. The artistry in the manufacturing, ink colors, the saping to one's handwriting...

Hi Adams

Thanks for asking.

I don't really have a collection , more like a tray of pens on my desk to be used like arrows in a quiver.

Here are three to start with:

Parker Sonnet 18k gold nib

Waterman Chesterton 18K gold nib rhodium plated

Parker Sterling silver (don't know the model ) from the late 60s/ early 70s - my only ballpoint that I like

I have a Pelikan M150 M nib, 3 Lamy Safaris (2 M nibs and a 1.1 Italic nib), 1 Lamy Joy 1.3 italic nib, two Pilot eye droppers, and I have a Lamy Vista and a rollerball which I will be experimenting into a visual eyedropper using the rollerball's barrel to contain the ink. Haven't got round to that yet!!

Hi Phang

Let's have a look at your Parker Vacumatics! It's the design which I believe the Sonnet of today is built on. :-)

There are made of celluloid, supplied by DuPont then.

DuPont stacked up layers of two different thin celluloid sheets (pearlescent and transparent) to form a celluloid block like a kuih lapis, then saw down the celluloid block and turn it on a lathe to make the caps, barrels and sections.

No plastic mold injection then, the manufacturing method was very labour intensive and wasteful in material.

WOW! That is awesome! Kueh lapis is already laborious! Making the pen out of sheets of celluloid is an art! Makes me want to save up for one now!

I'll check out some on the Fountain Pen Network just to learn more about it.

Thanks for sharing. I've learnt something new today!

wow... you had quite a big collection.. i guess quite a bit is spend on it.

Hi! welcome to the pen chat!

Yes, some of the people here have a lot of pens. It's fascinating work of useable art.

But it doesn't cost much to start enjoying fountain pens. Hero pens cost less than $5 and the ink about $3. The eye dropper Pilot is $7. All these can be bought at Mustafa.

Further up with comfort and design, for $40 , you can get a Lamy Safari fountain pen. It's so well design for the beginner. You'll enjoy using it for years and years.

Of course prices can go into the thousands. No need to head there (yet).

Just enjoy what can be reached.

Have fun!
